DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM "FINE CARS"!!!!

They are the biggest crooks in the business. My brother and I went to go look at it back when they listed it for $15,000. We made him an offer over the phone and he agreed. When we arrived after our 45 min drive they said that they will take our agreed upon offer AS A DOWN PAYMENT AND FINANCE US THE REST.

WTF?????? When we refused, they said "don't worry we will help you. Just give us the $14,000 and we will finance you guys the rest. We will help you, that is what we do." When I replyed "I don't need your help and I didn't just drive 45 minutes here for it either. We agreed on a price and now you attempt to cheat us because you see that we are serious buyers. Now you have NO DEAL and we are leaving.

Ready for the funniest part????

Just as we begin to stand up a little arab guy who is hovering around in the backround attempting to look busy says "Ok, sold. I will do it." I look at my brother with a confused look and say "this guy as been here for over 30 minutes watching our conversation, looking like part of the cleaning crew, saying nothing and now HE is selling us the car?"

Turns out that the arab guy is the owner and had the sales man try and squeeze out a few more $$$. When it didn't work he attempted to sell us the car.

Ready for the funniest part 2????

When we began to do the paperwork the arab guy suddenly stands up and ask us to follow him. What is this crazy man doing I ask my brother. Well, he takes us back to the Marauder and lifts the hood. He says "Do you know what this is? Before we have a chance to reply he continues. This is a big and strong motor. It is not a crown victoria. This a special motor. Look at it." I said, Sir, we are already agreeing to buy it. Can we finish the paperwork? He replys "I have to charge you more. This is not a crown Victoria." I said, you already told us that we have a deal. You said "SOLD" and we began the paperwork. You already have all of our paperwork and information on your desk. Do you want to sell it to us at the agreed upon price yes or no? He says so you mean to tell me that you don't have another $500? At this point my brother tells him the agreed upon price or we walk. The arab guy again point to the engine and says "this is not a crown victoria, this is a special motor. Look." We look at each other and begin to walk away all the while he keeps saying "I cannot believe that you don't have $500. Just $500 more and we have a deal."

Last words I said before we exited the door was "I have heard you guys say we have a deal 5 times today. Honest people do not agree to a deal and then attempt to change the terms."

So we left. These guys at Fine Cars are such crooks that I can honestly say that we were not mad. We felt relieved that we didn't end up buying the car from these cheater crooks.

And the sad part is that happens at more dealerships than I can care to count.

And I've only bought 6 new cars (but shopped for many more - some seriously, some not so much) - I can only imagine the shenanigans some of you more experienced guys have had to deal with.

Come to think of it, I have never seen a "deal" on a new car that did not have hidden fees like advertising, etc. somewhere. It was only when I bought the MM that I knew enough to have the balls to say "take that extra stuff off of there - we didn't agree to it and we're not paying for it."

It's a veritable bible if good information about how to get out of these cons. Definitely worth your time.

Look in the classifieds on this site for a good Marauder.

A Ford dealer in Bel Air Md tried a similar scam on us. Before the MM, we were looking ot Sprot Tracs. We worked out a deal on the phone and Lisa went in to close the deal (I was working). She packed up the kids and went to the dealer.

When she got there, the deal changed! She was pissed to say the least! I am glad it didn't work out. :D

They tried the same crap with me once Charlie. Maybe Carmax has the right idea. One fare price no hagling. This way you see the car online, you can do a carfax, see the price and decide if you want to drive over and check it out. Just don't try to sell the a car. lol Different story then.

Rick :beer:yep got mine from carmax as a grand marquis :) there was a 96 impala ss next to ot so I had car of somewhat equal statue to test around it. carmax also releases the list of service they did on the vehile in their posession. I had the brakes redone and some other items. 30 day free window means nitpick.

Funny thing is the Fine Cars people drove it to Towers on Friday. They parked next to us but were not very friendly, at the time I think they said the price was 16k or so. Although it was a black and light flint with a low price you are probably better off not having to deal with them.

Yeah, biggest crooks in South FL. Lets hope that we don't hear of them again.

You have more patience or more stomach for this kinda crap than I do. Once would have been enough for me to walk. Then I would have reported the scam to the BBB.

The most successful negotiating tactic that I have found is your ability to walk out. Don't ever give up that option.

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately I don't think I could get a loan for a private party sale.

You don't know if you don't try...
A good start would be at your local credit union.
Good Luck!

Central florida lincoln mercury had an 04 with 25k on the clock that looked great. I didn't perform a thouhrogh inspection but it's worth a look if they still have it. Asking 23k.

hi
do a kbb.com for a guestimate. i m thinking that car is worth 21,700 . tell them 21 flat . and check the rear rubber .
i did the same on a 04 dtr that needed rears. same mileage,
she squawked, i said '21 or i m walking' . she did the 'i ll be right back' ... they saw it my way... tough saleswoman but like they say' start walking and the tune changes'

Longwood L-M has one listed, at a very very high price. I will never cast my shadow in Longwood Lincoln Mercury's doorway again.

Went to buy a used Lincoln Continental from them on a Tuesday. Agreed on a price with my trade and made out a check for 10% until I pick up the car. Sales Manager said to take the car now. "I don't want the car now, but will pick up on Friday". "Take the car now". "Don't want the car now". "Why not". I told him "because I have not paid for it and will bring in the rest of the money on Friday". He said, "ok, we will make out a Promisory Note". Ok, so I go to the telephone to call my bank for the money. When I get back, the salesman is making out papers that say "Ford Credit". I say, "I hope thats not for me because I'm not signing that". Sales Manager comes out and asks why. I said because that is an application for Ford Credit. He said, "it's the same as a promisory note". I said, "I know what a promisory note is and that is not a promisory note and it does not say stupid on my forhead". He would not hold the car for me until friday. Said "what if someone comes in tonight or tomorrow and wants to pay full price". I told he "tough, you sold the car to me". Well he would not do it, so I said, "No deal, I'm no longer interested in the car". I went back to the phone, called my bank and cancled my request. Got my deposit check and tore it up. Manager said when I get the money friday, to come back and I can have the car. Told him, "I said that I am no longer interested in the car". When I got home, got a phone call, both that night, and the next day, both times saying the same thing, that when I get the money on friday, to come in and the car is mine. Told him again, "I am no longer interested in the car as I don't purchase with the method you use".

What would have happened if I had signed was that when I went back for the car, they would have said something like "oh we are sorry but the girls in the office saw the credit application and they sent it in". Then I would not only have to pay some interest, but the Title would have gone to Ford Credit and it would have caused problems.

I found one three months later, identical to the Longwood one, and ended up paying $4000.00 less for it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another story, was looking for my Mercury Marauder. Found one at Ocala Ford. Made an appointment with them to have a salesperson waiting for me when I got there. Wife and I drove up there, and salesperson was nowhere to be found. After waiting a little bit, salesman shows up. We go out to look at the Marauder. I first look at the rear tires which are quite worn. I said to the salesman that whoever had the car must have been driving it hard as the rear tires were beat. He said "no problem, we will put new tires on it, YOU GOT TO TRUST ME". Take it out for a ride. I notice that the transmission shifts very hard so I mention it to him. "No problem, we will flush out the transmission, YOU GOT TO TRUST ME". OK, we get back from the ride. He checks out my trade, sits at his desk while I get my coffee. Next he pulls out a paper and says, "the car I am trading in first retailed for $32000.00". I said "whoa, I don't care what my trade sold for when new, and I don't care what the Marauder sold for when new, I just want the difference". He said, "take it easy, YOU GOT TO TRUST ME". I then got up from my chair and said, "No I Don't, I'm No Longer Interested In The Car". As I'm trying to leave, managers came out of the woodwork. Not just one, but a few. (Mind you, we never got to the point of talking money). They kept asking "why". I just told them that "I changed my mind and I'm no longer interested in the car".

The following week, I found another one at Mullinax Ford/Mercury in New Smyrna Beach and purchased it there. Listed for much less than the one in Ocala, and I did not have to haggle. It was a pleasure to deal at this "one price" dealer. They bent over backward to make me happy, and their service department went out of their way to correct the "nit picks" I had.

Looks like the one from Fine Cars was sold only to get thrown up on ebay?

I have a 2003 300A for $20,500. 2860 original miles, never seen rain, SCT Tuner from Alternative Automotive, Tint, and other upgrades (minor). See the classified section for 2003's - I just listed it today. What I did when I bought my Marauder to make it easier was to get pre-qualified on Ebay and then I had the former owner on this forum list it on Ebay where I did an immediate buy it now. I covered the fees on Ebay and it made the process very simple as they handled all of the paperwork. I got some, he got some, signed and returned everything and I was good to go.
