I just wanted to know how long the stock rear tires are good for without burnouts. I have heard as little as 15,000 miles and as much as 50,000 miles. I'm guessing it's really around 20,000. Is this correct?

Is this correct? There is no correct answer and we've covered many a thread discussing the life of the tire. It varies so much - tire pressure, road conditions, etc. Just keep monitoring tread depth. We got 31K out of our OEM tires - no burnouts. The rears had more life but we had to replace the fronts due to inside wear and decided to replace all 4 at the same time.

I would say about 20,000 miles for front and rear

The center rib of tread of my rear tires are almost at the wear bars.
No burnouts since day one. My speedometer has not seen triple digits.
I have maintained the factory recommended tire pressure of 35PSI, personally monitored weekly.
The fronts are wearing evenly across all treadribs, with 5/32" tread remaining.
The MM rolled 16,000 miles just today.
Very doubtful if the fronts see 30,000 miles.
Not a stellar performance, in my view.
This week, I will be replacing the OEM rear tire size with OEM front size as an experiment to determine if the OEM 8" wide rim is too narrow for the OEM rear tire size to provide even tire wear.
Hope my comments are of help to you.

OEM rears toast at 15k miles. KDW2 rears are getting thin at 23k miles.

I replaced my rears at 21,000 just before travelling to MV III last year. I could have probably made 25K on them. The fronts are at 32,500 now and will be replaced before 36K. (35 psi fronts, 38 psi rears).

16K rears first set, getting close now again at 24. Can't explain it? :2thumbs: Original fronts are getting ready for replacement also. Dennis

Mine last until half the tread is gone and then I get new ones.

I just replaced my fronts due to a flat and ruined tire, but the inside of the tread was wearing....so I had the front aligned to Carfixers specs just before the tire replacement at about 26K. I still have the OEM rears on at just over 27K and the center of the tires are wearing thin but the out sides are wearing very well...still have plenty. only on two burn outs, a dozen or so sliding around corners and 8 runs down the strip.

Well, only one or two burnouts, alot of fishtails, (streets in vegas are very very slick), a couple of donuts, and a couple of high speed code 3 runs. 8000 miles and the rears are gone. fronts are still good. :)

My first set of rears lasted 18000 and were completely bald in the centers.
My second set of rears were replaced at 34000 just at the wear bars.
I replaced the fronts at 34000 also w/ outside wear. There was still about 2/32 tread to be worn on those tires.

my OEM KDWS rears were GONE at 14K miles, documented here on mm.net. Rears were wore in center, front inside tires were unsafe at 15k. I got KDW 2's after and those kicks ass, lots of grip and good treadlife.

OEMs have 21,000 right now, and look like they'll need replacing fairly soon.

Maybe its due to allignment specs .maybes it driviing habits, whos knows? All i am certain of is that the KDWS are not long lasting nor strong gripping, And I went through two sets of rears. within 21K , center wear.

I got 25k out of the rears and now have 30k on the fronts- the fronts are scalded on the inside front edges but are perfect all across the rest of the tread. I's time for a 'carfixer spec' alignment!

have 24k on original fronts and rears... last oil change they told me i would be needing rears soon... i never even check the tire pressure. :) with all the different pressures people run on here i figure it is a crap shoot anyway.

I just installed my fourth set on the rear at about 46000 miles. Have only replaced the front once and still plenty of tread on them.

I just turned 13, 885 on my 2003 and flunked the NH state inspection and had to buy 2 tires at $159 each, so I wrote to BF Goodrich (we'll see if any response) and I called Ford - like that will do any good - but worth a shot to complain! I was told by BFG 20k should be the norm - ya right!

My originals lasted 38,000 miles but about 80 % of my driving is on the turnpike. The center tread on the rears went despite the fact that I kept low inflation. All members eemed to have this problem. The fornts had the inside tread edge wear prematurely as do most of the member's original tires from what I've read on the club web site. I ordered the KDW 2 tires on line and had them installed at a local STS Tire place. I gave the wheel alignment specialist the specs from the carfixer section of our web site. He is the son of my best friend so he called me into the shop and I saw first hand how he set up the alignment. The new tires are much superior to the originals. How long they will last remains to be seen. I paid $ 184 a piece for fronts plus $ 123 for rears. No other manufacturer makes a smaller size for the front and larger size for the rear except B.F. Goodrich. Also, new version is an all summer, not all season tire so park it when it snows. The traction on the KDW 2 I think is superior to originals. Only problem is I already got a flat on one of the fronts with less than 2,000 miles on them. My 2000 Grand Marquis had Michelens and went 103,000 miles on them. The 2000 Grand Marq still had the original tires original tires when I traded in. Problem with performance tires I'm learning is they are a softer tread and get flats easier but man do they grip. I suggest avoiding burnouts. They really chew them up.

I got close to 26K. At that time the center was worn just below the wear mark. I ran the tires at 35psi. I have replaced the stock tires with the KDW 2's which ride and handle way better. I think that they will wear better as well. The KDWs are a stiffer contruction than the KDWS.

Stay tuned...I should know how long they lasted in 3-4 years.

I just replaced my original tires at 32,000 mi. There was still some tread on the rear, but the front tires were shot. KDW2s were not available, so I took OEM.

Normal driving got me 20000 on rears and 36000 on fronts. I don't find anything wrong with the Goodrich tires so continued to run them. Car still has original brake pads at 39000 miles. I'd say thats pretty good for such a heavy car.

The KDW2's are very popular and my next choice, but other manufacturers do make similar smaller in front, larger in rear.

Michelin, Nexen, Pirelli, and Yokohama do as well. Whether or not their a better tire or better deal than KDW2 is definitely debateable.

My original front's lasted 32,000.
Original rears were also replaced at 32,000 but with the backorder I was in dire need at the time as I do believe a little bit of the cord was starting to show.

Carefully monitoring the new sets, keeping 38 PSI in the front and 39 PSI in the rear based on what people on our site have experimented with.

My rears lasted only a bit over 19,500 miles, and my fronts have excessive wear on the inside of the tires now, the outside edges are also worn but thats partly my fault due to hard cornering. :burnout: I'm at 28,450 miles now and will change out the fronts within the next couple of weeks.

I'm going with 42 lbs. of air pressure on all four corners from here on out !!!:coolman:

Marsha, My understanding is the the KWD2 is strictly a high performance SUMMER tire. Not the right tire for NH winters but a great performance tire for warm weather. Go to the Tire Rack link on the home page and you will find all the info on BF goodrich tires and all the others they carry including ratings on every characteristic you can imagine. Girls ask questions that guys are afraid to ask, in my experience. Dennis:high5:

My original rears got 20,000 miles and I changed them because the tread was at 2/32".
My original fronts got over 30,000 miles before I changed them also.
I just turned 55,000 now and the rears are worn to the wear bar.
Its is time for a new set,a nd I'm going to visit my local COSTCO for pricing.
The wear has been pretty even with the center wearing a little faster.

You all have to remember that these are 'Z' rated tires.
The more spirited your driving style is, the more wear
you're gonna experience from 'Z' rated tires.
Drive it like Miss Daisy and they will wear that way too.

I keep all 4 tires as close to 40 PSI as I can.
I also check the pressure at least once a month,
and every time before long trips.

Mine went 38,000. I've seen three Marauders in the last two weeks with original rubber and everyone had plenty of tread on the outside and the center tread worn. Same thing that happened with mine. Club members report the new version KDW 2 tires are much better. So far I agree. And oh yes, I had to replace the fronts too at 38,000. A ton of tread but the inside edge wore terribly. I took the slip on our site on proper wheel alignment and the technician at STS Tire was happy to oblige.

Fronts still have ~ 1/2 tread left.

Michelin does not make ANY tires that they would recommend
as suitable for the Marauder.

I Have 20K on the stock tires. They Still look great! Do not be afraid to pump them up. I run mine 38-40PSI. The way I see it 30K should be no problem.
