Ok this just happen for the first time while i was driving home from Penn. I had my wipers on b/c it was a lil drizzle out. I cut them off and parked and turned he ignition off..Now after about 30 min I went to turn teh car back on and after about 1 min the wipers came on by there self the switch was completly off. Whats the hell excatly. Now i also noticed the light came on also and would not turn off from the from the headlight switch. Now im like this **** is crazy. So once i stopped and turned the car off everything went back to normal. Now I continued to drive home and after about 1.5 hours of driving here we go again same deal the wipers come on and the lights wont turn off at all unless i turn the car off. Does it sound like a bad multifunction switch. I had a familiar problem in my 1985 Crown Vic but the wipers never came on thou. Seems like alot of time these multifunction switches are teh blame for alot of ****. Any help anyone can give please post. I know it cant be a blown fuse b/c the devices would not work not just stay on none stop. But remember once i turn teh car off everything goes to normal. Once i turn teh car back on the light switch is fine again until the wiper come on and wont stop wiping thats when i get teh problem with the light switch and also i didnt turn the wipers on again they turned on automatically by there self and would not shut off only thing i could do was turn teh speed up on them but even in the off position they keep goin.

WAD ( Working As Designed ) feature.

Headlights are auto-on when the windshield wipers are turned-on.

Turn the car off and everything goes back to normal.

*Hint: It's all explained in the owner's manual.

You need to send a PM to BigDogJim.
He had the same problem and it got resolved but not after the dealer
did some major parts swapping.
Jim can tell you what finally cured his Marauder.

Do you keep your lights in the "Auto Position"? I had the same thing happen enroute to the CAM meet about 2 weeks ago. I pulled into a parking lot and shut it down for about 5 minutes to see if something would reset. It didn't and soon the wipers were coming on again with the headlights. For the heck of it, I turned the lights to the off position and the wiper action stopped. It has been about 14 days and so far there has been no reoccurrence. I'll have it checked out during my next service unless they start action up again. I have already had the wiper motor replaced last June.

I do miss my auto-on lights though .... ;) After nearly three years, it seems funny to be using the manual lights. :o

So you never use your auto lights? Man i love that feature even on my 85 Vic...Well I know a way to stop the wipers just pull the wiper motor fuse #17 inside the car. Under the hood #114 maxi fuse/ circuit breaker for wipers.

So you never use your auto lights? Not since the squirrelly wipers problem. Seems moving the lights to the manual off-on posiition is the only way to stop it ... short of pulling the fuses. I have been using the AutoLamp position for 2.5 years until this happened. Yeah, I miss it too. ;)

Have had my wiper motor replaced twice under warranty. Last time the tech said that there is a plastic cup like area below the wiper motor that is catching water and possibly shorting out the motor and making it go wacky. He drilled a 1/4 inch hole as a drain. We see how that works. :D
