Question does anyone know if the PI has blackout window trim? If so would it fit the MM? I have the vent visors on all of the door windows and after looking at it, in my opinion they would look alot better if the window trim that is showing was blacked out.

I don't think the PI does, and if it did, I can't imagine FORD going to the expense of making it physically different, just black in color. My 2 cents.

Paint it. Rustoleum gloss black. Fine steel wool to remove any coatings on the chrome strip, then small paint brush.
Takes about 10 minutes per window.Easy, looks good.

Who said it would not last and what was the rational? Also could you clearcoat it after it dries, to help protect it?

I thought it would last, some people I spoke with said I didn't properly prep. the surfaces?I don't know, looks ok to me.
Clearcoat,sure,I didn't,probably should.Any suggestions welcome.
Remember,I'm not a painter, I tinker with stuff.

To answer the original question --- NO, the Police Interceptor does not have and is not offered with a blacked-out window trim. I imagine that buying new window trim and having it professionally stripped / painted is the way to go. I'm not knocking NOMAD's trick, but Rustoleum does not belong anywhere near a $30,000.00+ vehicle.

Dont use rust-o-matic! it chips off...i have done 2 cars like this. Use black engine enamel after scuffing with 320 grit sp. I took almost an hour to precisley tape off the metal part and cover the whole car in newspaper to do it. I used a spray can. But then again... i can work wonders with a spray can and make black paint so smooth you can read a newspaper in it... :D

Dont discount spraypaint because of so many people that use it and make it turn out like crap. If you work at it, and take your time... you cannot tell the difference.

The chrome window trim surround is riveted on with a rivet every 3 inches or so. Almost friggin impossible to get off .... drilling for a long time.... arg.

Good luck!

We use to use Black Satin for mldg's at the bodyshop. Prepare as above with 320 then wipe down with wax and grease remover( Prep-Sol).

was at auto zone yesterday and the have somthing called "BLACK OUT TAPE". its supposed to adhere very well to chrome and its for the purpose of, well blacking out chrome. I never tried the stuff, but before you go ahead and paint it, why not give it a shot and see how you like how it looks. its probably just electrical tape but hey its better than messing it up with spray paint, and then you dont even like it.

Sean: LOVE THE TAILLIGHT, VERY COOL!

Sean, I must say your ride is quite trick. The website is nice. I always wanted to tweak one of my patrol cars, but the Dept. would never let me. So do the next best thing and buy myself a MM.

I was wondering if the moldings could be powered coated. I think any paint would chip and powder coating would be more durable. IMHO.

I found this very same product last week. I haven't had time to fuss with it yet, but it appears to be a simple, and quick solution for the meanwhile. It is a wide, thick, flat black tape, but it is not quite wide enough to make the turn at the bottom rear area on the back door. I'll have to creatively trim it in. An ititial test proved that any amount of dirt causes noticable bubbles.

Sean:

Gorgeous work! It's amazing how much blacking out the trim adds to the car's stealthy beauty!!! That window trim has annoyed the heck outta me since day one! And ever since I saw the Marauder S55 concept, I've been DYING to do the tailights too, but with a high-gloss opaque black paint, not the NiteShades stuff. PLEASE!!! WHICH PAINT DID YOU USE ON BOTH THE TAILLIGHTS AND THE WINDOW TRIM????? And which grit sandpaper did you prep with? Thanks!

I have personal experience attempting to remove the trim from a CV P-71. It's almost impossible. As Sean says, it's riveted under the window channel. My advice is paint it or tape it. I'd be very surprised that someone was able to powder coat it without very great effort. As I recall the difficult part was the moulding above each window. Also, pre 98 CV's have the extra window which has the trim embedded into the rubber. (I wish they would have kept that roofline).

Just my $0.02 worth.
