So ya sold the MM.

I've seen the stories. Some went out of necessity, some because they had serious enough mechanical issues, and some to make way for another ride.

Regardless of why, I am curious as to how it finally was successfully sold.

Hopefully you are still around to answer. If not and you know someone that did that is no longer here, post up for them.

Bought my first MM in June of '02 and sold it outright to CarMax the following May. Took a bath at 23,500. for a very nicely maintained and modded MM, but I needed the cash to buy the Kenny Brown #1x. It was a hard thing to do, I was very attached to that car. But, it is just a car, and I got a much better MM out of the deal. CarMax was nice to deal with too.

I was looking for a very limited edition vehicle (only going to make them for 4 months) in a color that was even more limited. Dealer called me at 5:30 on a Wednesday night and said that one had just come in. We immediately drove to the dealer. The car was exactly what we were looking for so we started talking trade. At 8:30, we were driving the new car home.

I didn't really have the luxury of trying to sell it because of the fear that it may take forever for another one to become available. In fact, almost 2 months later, the dealer (who is the largest volume dealer for this brand in the Southeast) has not received any more (in any color). I had left word at other dealers to call me when they received one. One of them called last week. It had just come in, but didn't have the options I wanted.

I received what I thought was a fair value for a 2003 with 50,000 miles on it.

We had a discussion at the last Carolina Marauders about the MM owner turnover and I am just curious.

I love my car but can see some circumstances where we'd have to part. A little more remote would be getting another. Most likely will have just this one for some time.

Why didn't you just say what car you bought? What is the big deal? I, for one, would not mind knowing what was made in such limited numbers.

I traded my MM, along with my wife's Crown Vic last month for a new 06' Dodge Charger R/T. In 3 years of ownership, I never experienced a problem with my 03' "300A" other than having the radio/CD/cassette player replaced under warranty in August of 04' for a problem that seemed to be somewhat common among the early-build 03' "300A's" (along with many other problems apparently) based on what I've learned here and at MM.org.

The extremely thin, quickly "flat-blacking" and easily scratched paint (despite many waxings and most of it's life spent in a garage) was the "final straw", especially with FMC's unwillingness to do anything about it!

Also, the wife's Crown Vic clearcoat started to peel off (like an onion) despite the same meticulous care that the Marauder received over the years. Once again, the dealership said "oh well.......". Both the Crown Vic and the Marauder had extended warranties which, thankfully, the reimbursement of the unused portion of both policies paid for an extended warranty on the Dodge, as well as the sales tax.

As far as I'm concerned, FMC is in serious, serious trouble and is destined to "die" if they don't abandon the "politics of genetics" in their hierarchy and hire bright, young new people (not related by blood) to take over the company and "set sail" in a new direction (Ford of Australia anyone?)!

I hope I haven't offended anyone here but, your query sort of left the door open for my mini-rant soooooooo, please accept my apologies in advance..........

I bought a 2006 Chrysler 300C Heritage edition. The Heritage Edition will only be built for 4 months with 3,500 maximum production. The HE is basically a SRT8 without the big engine. It has SRT8 wheels, suspension, transmission, spoiler and seats. I wanted it in inferno red which is not offered on a regular 300C.

Agent,

My Marauder sat dormant in the Auto Trader for over 7 months. I started it last year @ $19k (Area dealers were asking $21k at the time) then slowly lowered the price to $16k with virtually no results. The only calls I received were those of other advertisers wanting me to advertise in their respective publications. I then parked the car in front of the local Mercury and Ford dealerships, still no takers. I tried my luck with e-bay, clearly stating in the ad that I needed monies in the mid $15's, still no sale. The car only bid to $11,900. I went to several (about 9) car lots and received cash offers from $12,500 to $14,500, however I declined. Finally, a special interest lot (Rallye Auto Sales) called me when they caught wind of me taking the car to several dealers. They offered me what I owed plus a $175.00 consolation check so I didnt leave their lot with empty pockets.

As much as I love that car I am very relieved to be out from underneath it. Driving a daily driver like the Marauder with my apparent inability to maintain safe speeds is a bad combination due to premium fuel costs. I wont mention how many times I've been stopped for speeding! The low mileage supercharged Marauder S that was on e-bay recently only bid to $16k when his projected selling price was $38k. I have brought the topic up before about the perceived rarity of these vehicles and I'm sorry but nothing could be further from the truth. Is the Marauder a limited production, head turning, tire shredding beast? It sure is! And I may even own one again some day, but when cars that sold new for $36k are fetching $14/15k three years later, something does not compute. A 401 4spd equipped AMC Pacer is also considered rare, however rare does not always equate to $$$. Perhaps in about ten years Marauder owners may fair well, but Impala SS owners thought so too, as well as Buick GN owners of the eighties. Dont get me wrong I LOVE driving/owning the car, but its simply too expensive to operate as a daily driver. I will certainly miss her.

Post Script: By the way, I have the following items for sale: Mint badgeless grill built by Zack himself for $300. Mint, never been used spare tire mounted on Marauder wheel. $175.00.

Best I can calculate, I got $17,000 for the Marauder on trade. I thought that was a fair price since the dealer knew that I wanted the new car badly.

Carmax. It was a good deal from a money aspect- the car owned me more than I owned the car (details in another thread). I really like my new Mercedes roadster (quick and solid) but it's just a car- the Marauder was an obsession.
