Lidio - any chance on getting a skip shift option where we need it the most - like around 40MPH?

I've heard of this on manual transmission GM vehicles - can you define it for me related to our cars?

I had one on my Autotrans 02 Impala. In fact, many Impala's now (tuned by a certain company) come with a "skip shift" feature - standard.

The Impala's are quite sluggish around 35-40MPH. When you would stomp on it, it would shift into second and be a real dog.

Imagine driving st 35-40 in your Marauder, dropping it, and having it shift int first? :D I don't know what the reprocusions would be with our trans, but I just thought I'd spark up the conversation to see what's what.

One more POI on this, is that it would only skip shift at a certain MPH (35-40). Once you were over that, you'd downshift into second; just so people don't think you're always downshifting/forcing it into 1st all the time (like at 45MPH :D).

FYI:

OD off, 40mph;..romp it. Hammer the load pedal.

When it finds first...

one helluva ride.

Ask me how I know. :D

Our MM's will do ~60 MPH @ redline in 1st. gear with 3.55:1 rear-end.

At ~40 MPH, moderate throttle, or cruising...the car would be in third gear.

I have a tune, so I would not be in OD.

Nail the pedal, slight hesitation, and first gear will happen.

RPM's jump to ~4,000, and she is in power....all the way to 6,200 RPM.

Most fun you can have with your pants on!

Keep the pedal to the carpet and your 2 - 3 shift happens around 95 MPH.

Errrr, private track tested. :D

Interesting. Wonder why mine doesn't do that... :(

Hmmmmmm......

Mine does the 1-2 at 6K and 45-47-MPH and 2-3 at about 85 MPH??

Downshifting to 1st won't happen above 35 MPH but that might be in the Diablo blower tune....So you won't light 'em up at speed and get all wacky!!:shake:

Umm, yeah..what he said. I have perfected the steering wheel "Vulcan Death Grip" that I use in such instances.

Jack, yup, the downshifts were set so you wouldn't light them up going to 1st and spank the rev limiter right afterwards with 4:10s and stock size rear tires (PCM being too slow to catch the upshift in time). I guess you could have the downshifts set to a little higher mph with the 3.55s if you wanted to.

Just a reminder...

What ever you do, don't force a downshift in OD (4 > 2), the OD band cannot take much of this and it will fail early (loss of OD). Shut off OD before dropping the hammer (3 > 2 or 1).

Carry on, gents.

Carry on, gents. That's a good point. I had to drop it into second the other day while in OD when I slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting some knucklehead in front of me who gave the right of way away. I never do it otherwise, but it's something to be conscious of.

On the Trilogys I dont let them down shift back to first from a high role speed becuase some times they'll shift to late back into 2nd because of the added blower power.

You might not be nailing it fast enough....
