I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my new tire install.

Can anyone confirm with authority: there was a painted dot on the sidewall of the new tire, does the dot indicate the seam in the tire? And shouldn't the seam (being slightly heavier) be located opposite the valve stem?

With my new tire install, all 4 corners have the painted dot in the area of the valve stem. You'd all laugh at the stack of wheel weights they had to put on opposite the valve stem. TIA.

Changing my answer did a quick search and came up with this http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=17
apparently with the new technology in balancing those dots are no longer used but they still do it for the older machines.

If you're using too many weights in one area, pop the tire beade and rotate the tire on the rim, and try again.

The Hunter Road Force Balance machine can do this calculating for you, and identify where to mount the tire for the best possible balance.
