I have always turned it off when passing (downshifting) but I have a "Lidio Clone" tune from DiabloSport and it only locks the TC in 4th gear.

When it downshifts to 3rd while passing or just running it hard the TC unlocks automatically....at least it appears to?? I still turn thr O/D off but maybe I really don't have to??;)

Lidio, any comments on this??:bows:

From reading here and elsewhere, I understand that the 4-2 downshift is hell on our trannies. Apparently sends all the power through one thin shaft for a moment. 4-3 is OD off, then 3-2 is the kick down.

I'm sure Lidio will confirm or deny this notion. However, based on my reading I do OD off when passing.

I don't pass. I'm quite content to just follow the guy in front of me and adjust my speed to his or her's.
Yep, go with the flow.... that's me.
What's this OD thing you're talking about anyway? Is it something that can make you drive better and save gas? I thought the key turne dthese cars on and off, am I missing something?

My DiabloSport tune does not allow a downshift to 2nd above 35 MPH and my 3-4 shift happens at 40 MPH with TC lockup at 50 MPH sooooo no way for me to kick down to 2nd and get all sideways!! :shake:

Thanks to Scott Beer and Dave Lamberson the tranny won't get twisted in two with a violent downshift to 2nd above 45 MPH like it used to do before the blower!!:bows:

OD = Overdrive. You will get better gas mileage (Highway) with your transmission in OD.

Rich -

With the mods and pipes you've got I doubt you have to follow anyone for long - the sound and sub-sonic vibrations must cause them to pull over to the side and cover their heads in fear.

I knew someone with more intelligence than me would calm me down!

Why just the other day I was behind some guy in a Prius with NY tags and he was just driving me nuts! 10-15 below the limit. I knocked the OD off and kept screaming in my head " I'm using all the fuel you're saving! You smug son-of-a-tree hugger you!" Then I passed him when I had the chance. It was tough, but I pulled it off! Wished #132 was sitting on the motor though.... whew.

Hey Rich! I usually have the O/D off around town and while merging. I put the O/D back on on the highways. When I anticipate a near WOT situation, I click off and put the pedal to the polyester carpet and go!:D

Just follow the light on the dash, Green means go!

This board made me paranoid about how weak our O/D is so Im constantly turning the O/D off when Im passing.

I think that something needs clarification: If you are going to gradually pass while in O/D it may not downshift at all. It hurts nothing to have a gentle 4-3 downshift.

If you are going to STAND on the go pedal and kick it down to 2nd gear from O/D...this is what you SHOULD AVOID.:D

Agreed Smokie but my original question was about having a tune that eliminates TC lockup in ALL gears except 4th....Doesn't it disengage automatically when any downshift occurs??

Lidio....WHERE ARE YOU???:help:

Hijack away....Rich!!!

I cannot wait until you get that "Whistler" and go practice "No O/D" blasts with it......JUST BE REAL CAREFUL WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET!!!!:argue:

Don't ask me how I know!!!:burn:

Ok, here goes.:) Not speaking for Lidio but I am familiar with his tune since I have one at the present. Lidio locks the T/C in 4th only at about 63 mph and if you press the go pedal much it unlocks it right away until you let off the gas. There is no T/C lock up in any other gear except as described above.

Lidio if I misrepresented your tune feel free to :bop: me and I'll go stand in the:corner:

I don't know how weak out trannys are, but I'd say they are tough enough. I will admit that mine has been flushed twice in less that 30,000 miles out of love.

I work my shifter as if I had a stick. I use a lot of engine braking entering turns since the brakes on these pigs suck. I also like the feel of holding second out. I did a 2-3 manual shift that was good for a 3-5 mph blip on the speedo. :run: :burn:

I have drag raced my car at ATCO twice and found it boring. If my car complains about beatings it's because of how hard I push her on twisty roads. :drive:
