Well after reading numerous posts about how happy everyone is about the performance or the higher stall convertor, I went ahead and purchased one. Today was my install day. It was a soupy 95 degrees out with heavy humidity when my car was finished and I was able to take it for its first run.
I put the car in gear and I was surprised that it pushed forward like normal, I then decided to try a light throttle tip in like I normally do just to see if there is any difference. At first there is a micro second of slip and then it rolled off like normal. I was definitly Happy.
Then came the 1/2 throttle take off. Even with this heavy humidity I was able to get a squeal from the tires at only 1/2 Throttle! I never was able to put that off before.
Now the fun part, I clicked the O/D off and just gave it a full throttle launch without loading the convertor. I had a bit of spin and a bit of Sideways action but I was still gaining more speed then I was Pre-install. Once again I was quite thrilled.
Finally the best test of them all, I pulled into a empty block, wound the convertor up to about 2100 RPMS and let it rip, the Rear tires screamed and smoked up a bit as I drifted sideways then the tires bit and I hit 60 in no time. Im beyond happy with this install and especially happy that the drivablility hasn't really changed from before the install.
I have noticed that the shifts are velvet smooth, but I was still able to get a slight chirp out of the 1-2 shift at WOT but the part throttle shifts go un-noticed.
I have also noticed that just cruising around, If I dip into the throttle there is more power all through the band which I was also very pleased with.
I highly recomend this mod, Keep in mind all this was done in a hot and humid day, I can only imagine what it would feel like on a 50 degree morning.
This Mod has my Seal of Approval!

Sounds great. I think this might be the mod I begin to save for now. Anyhow, I'm curious as to what you mean you along with others mean by loading the converter?? Thanks.

Out of curiosity, which stall speed did you go with? 3000, 3200, or ??

Holding the break pedal while leaning into the throttle.
Thanks for the review!

Holding the Brake pedal and bringing the RPM's up to the point of breaking the tires loose. then let off the brake and smash the pedal to the floor.
This is the way you get the most out of the convertor.

I went with a 3000 stall. My car is still a daily driver so I wanted to keep it drivable without going all out.

Did you make any changes to your PCM program to go along with the new converter?

Excellent write up and great results.

However, may I make an observation?
The 03's have a 2400 stall converter but the 04's have a 2700 stall. Since you experienced a great improvement in performace from the extra 600 would the 04's experience a similiar improvement from only 300? Anyone?

When I put mine in I loved it.....but you will love it even more once you get it tuned. It was another night and day difference. I would actually chirp the tires from 1-2 at 1/2 throttle.
