I've been thinking about putting a more capable transmission cooler on my Marauder. I saw this one at the Reinhart site: http://reinhartautomotive.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=12345&Product_Code=MM-TCBL

Anybody have this product? Any impressions, observations, opinions maybe even pictures? Any input appreciated.

I installed a cooler that I picked up at Advanced Auto Parts. Am very happy with it.

Pics are:

Very easy. I was going to make brackets to attach it, but I just used black nylon ties to secure it to the plastic cross braces. About an hour of work. Don't forget to add more tranny fluid.

I've thought about this upgrade ever since I went to a performance shop and the owner eyeballed my car. He liked them but he said the only thing he didn't like about Marauders was that they didn't come with a tranny cooler. Why would that be? Is it more of a preventative mod for longer transmission life or are there performance benefits?

I was also wondering if anyone has any thoughts on an oil cooler as well.

he said the only thing he didn't like about Marauders was that they didn't come with a tranny cooler. Why would that be? Actually, your friend is wrong...the MM does have a very nice transmission cooler, it's just hidden between the radiator and the A/C condenser...

The Kenny Brown Marauder S cars come with a "stacked plate" design cooler engineered by B&M. They are mounted in the driver's side wheel well lower nose, between the tire and the fog lamp. Lots of air flow down there.

This "stacked plate" design is considered the best style of cooler available, automatically allowing hot tranny fluid to flow through the stacks, while cooler fluid passes straight through to the return line, so, no loss of fluid by any confused thermostats/gates/valves. It's rated at 18,000 lbs. total GVW, well beyond what we should expect to need, cooling wise. Adds 1 pint of fluid to the system.

It's available today as a Ford Racing product, P/N M-7095-SR, 49.95, page 134 of the '06 catalogue. Inexpensive, easy to install, and well worth the performance and emotional assurance.

BTW, it's plumbed to process tranny fluid after it's been cooled by the OEM tranny cooler, on the flow path back to the tranny.

I broke one once, stabbed it with a screwdriver through the stacks, but it has never failed.

Hope this helps, carry on gents.

This is the one I went with.

Someday I'll get my garage work shop set up and find the time to install it!

I might be following in Mr Defyant's footsteps here. Good call.

i have the bullit proof trans high stall torque converter 410 gears synthetic fluid and original trans cooler and my temps dont go no higher than 180 at normal driving speed now burning up the highway it gets up to about the 190's but no higher than that and then comes back down to the 180's fast

The MM comes with one stock?!?Yes. A tranny cooler independent of the radiator is a factory item on the Marauider. It's located between the radiator and air conditioning condenser. It works quite well for most Marauders, but as you add mods and tweak your tune to increase RWHP, it may come up short in cooling tranny fluids, and only 'cause tranny temps tend to get hotter under more power. If you are headed in this direction, add a second cooler?

The temp sensor for the HVAC is located inside that plastic brace.

You sir, are correct! The cooler is mounted in front of the sensor.

I bought the B&M tranny cooler with the built-in fan which goes on once the fluid reaches 145 degrees. Haven't installed it yet. But I figured for the hot Florida weather this would be the way to go. I know that JoeWalsh has this cooler. Have to fabricate some brackets to mount it though. Anyone else had any experience with this tranny cooler?

Got it mounted in the passenger side fender behind the fog light. I believe the temp switch is closer to 180. I also did away with the OEM cooler and replaced it with a PowerStroke cooler. Required special brackets. Since the PS and Tranny coolers are combined into a single unit on the OEM setup, I had to come up with a PS cooler too. I used one from an Explorer, also required special brackets. My setup now goes from tranny to PowerStroke cooler to B&M cooler back to tranny. Why did I remove the OEM one? Two reasons: to reduce airflow restrictions and because Ford recommends cooler replacement if you have had a tranny go out (I've had two) because debris gets in the cooler, especially the ones with the automatic bypass valve. This debris then destroys the brand new tranny you just put in!

As for the temp sensor mounted up there, it is actually the outside air temp sensor but I believe it does play a part in the functions of the AC system. I had to fabricate a bracket for that too so it wouldn't be getting direct heat from my tranny cooler.

Thanks Brian. I think I need to hire you as my Marauder performance modififcation consultant:D

I have not set it up yet - and I need it. Mac has some good pics on the subject.
