With the radio off hold the volume / on / off button down until the display changes. i think you use the SEL button to increase / decrease the volume.

It's not in the manual.

When the radio is on hold down the on/off button for about 5-6 seconds the display will show speed volume followed by a number that you can change between 1 and 7 with the select control. The greater the number the more of a change in volume between slow and fast.:D

Did not know this! My aftermarket deck had this feature, but I've never seen this on a stock deck before. Thanks for the info

It also reads radio stations and tells you what station you are listing to and the name of the song playing.

Yeah, that's the RBS feature (or some such 3-letter acronym). That feature has really been an education for me ... I've been listening to songs for years and never knew the name of the band/artist. Now I do !!! ;) However, it only works if the station is broadcasting the RBS signal.

RDS- Radio Data System, or its official name in the US, Radio Broadcast Data System.

To activate it, press the "RDS" button.

Cool, I'll have to set the volume tomorrow, I already figured the RDS by myself!!

Too bad it does not have the delayed shutdown like my 96 does, the radio stays on after shutting the engine off till you open the door or after 20 min.

Tony (Blk Mamba),
With regards to the RDS, don't be surprised when it doesn't work that great. Most radio stations don't update their songs in a timely manner and therefore you get inaccurate information. Even worse is when the signal gets scrambled and you get part of the artist name and part of the song title.

This is why my lowly college station, which COULD use this technology, chooses only to put our call letters in RDS. Less mumbo-jumbo to get all messed up.

The other half of the RDS button lets you pinpoint the place you want the music centered, all seats, driver seat, or rear seat.

Found that by accident, very similar to the JBL in the Lincoln. I liked the Drivers seat best :)

Speed Volume was very easy set that this AM

Yep drivers seat is best, unless you are in the back seat, then it really sucks. The speed volume makes a real difference on the highway. My factory unit would have been gone long ago without it. As for the RDS, pretty much useless, get XM.
