I bought about two years ago metco motorsports marauder inlet tube. and hooked it up to the stock air box and droped in a k@n air filter.. now i know with a high flow filter you get more air but you also get more dirt. since i'm useing stock air box i'm i receiving any more hp or i'm i just getting more dirt and oil threw my mafs and intake?? with out any benefit.. so in my case witch is better a dry paper filter or the oiled k@n??

Mr. Ward, your question will generate almost as much controversy as asking "which supercharger is better?"...

IMHO, enough studies have been done to indicate that the K&N drop-in filter provides essentially NO increase in performance in a Marauder, but DOES allow more dirt to pass...you're better off with the stock paper filter...in fact, many CVPI owners over on CVN replace the stock Crown Vic air box with the Marauder airbox and filter and find it's a distinct improvement. The oiling issue is mostly from OVER-oiling the filter, but why take the risk?

I'm in full agreement with Mr. OverLord. While every "mod" adds benefits, they also add risks, or, liabilities.

Usually, you can strike a comfortable balance between the two that makes the mod worthwhile, in an overall view. The K&N panel filter for the stock air box does not meet this pattern. Very low (if any) benefit, with the usual risk of damage, or, increased maintenence of the MAF. Therefore, IMHO, it's not a "mod" for the Marauder.

OTOH, the Metco bellows is quite the opposite, Mike. Nothing but gains, good choice for an improvement in the air induction system. Mate that to a PHP kit filter kit, and you're going to see some real improvements.

Just my .02C, hope this helps.

I have a K&N drop in filter, so should I hurry up and buy the K&N FI kit/JLT intake to prevent problems?

I have a K&N drop in filter, so should I hurry up and buy the K&N FI kit/JLT intake to prevent problems?yes because the k@n drop in filter is doing nothing but letting dirt and oil pass thru so the paper filter is best if you want to keep stock air box..

I have the PHP airbox and the nylon sock over the filter. I havent had any dirt issues with over 15k miles on this mod.

I have been running conical filters for about 7 years now, 5 on my T-Bird and 2 on the Rauder and no issues to date. Go with a conical and make it happy. They do make a difference.
