So yesterday I went a looked at a 2004 GM LS Limited Edition to buy and today I got around to doing a CarFax report on it. What has me confused is that on the carfax report it states:
2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS
2MEHM75WX4X624620
SEDAN 4 DR
4.6L V8 SFI DOHC / REAR WHEEL DRIVE
The only thing I didn't check was under the hood because I figued it just had a 4.6 sohc but when I started it up it of course didn't sound like the dohc but it was very peppy when I drove it around the lot. Does anyone know if they put the DOHC in the Limited Editions? I only thought the Marauder, Mach 1 and Cobra's had the DOHC engines for 2004. The car only has 12,584 miles on it and because I used to work there they are going to sell it to me for $14,995 which is an awesome deal I think.

Also if anyone wants a CarFax report just let me know I got the unlimited vin check for 30 days.

The GM-LS has the SOHC 2v 4.6L engine. Look in our gallery for engine pics, and pop of the hood on the LS. You'll know the difference immediately.
The eighth character of the V.I.N. is the engine code. "W" is the single cam engine. Alternatively, your MM would be a "V" in the eighth position. The "H" in the fourth position, indicates Driver's and Passenger's side Airbags as well!

RoyLPita ran the vin for me also. Come to find out it has the handling and performance package also =). The pictures I've seen of GM LS engines with the sohc show the airbox on the driver side, I'm hoping that is the case so I can re-use my stock one from the MM once I get a real intake kit for it and put it on the GM.

I didn't know it came with those rims when you got the performance package.
Were the 17" 5 spoke rims an additional option?

I'll have to give the car a good long look over again, stopping at the dealership and taking it for a lil spin was a spur of the momment type of thing. When I get some time to myself after work this week I'm going to go and inspection this thing from top to bottom and find out its deal.

The 17" wheels came on the Sport CV only.
