View Full Version : Speedo off after flash....

I've cc'd Dennis, but thought I'd look for answers here as well until I hear back...
Not 100% confirmed, but my speedo seems to be off as if I'm still running the old gear ratio - (about 10-15 mph faster than I'm travelling). Since I'm not familiar with how to use the tuner, and the mechanics who installed the mods were the ones who did it for me, does anyone know why this might be happening and have any suggestions as to how to correct it?
Thanks.

are you sure the tune took into account your 4.10's?

Sounds like it didn't.

Doesn't DR send 2 custom tunes, one for the OEM 3.55 gears and one for ppl who have 4.10s? Thats what I've been told to expect when I get mine...hopefully this week!

I was assuming that the tune that came from Dennis would account for the 4.10's, since the new gears (torque converter, plugs, stat, everything) also came from Dennis in the same order.
The shift patterns are definitely changed, so I'm assuming this means the car was flashed with the new tune, correct?
In other words, if the tuner comes with 2 settings (one for stock gearing, the other for the 4.10's) and the mechanics flashed the car for the wrong (i.e. stock) gearing, would the shift patterns still be different? And wouldn't there be other issues because of the new (cooler) stat and plugs, etc?
Or do the shift patterns change solely because of the new torque converter and, if so, is there a chance that the car wasn't flashed at all?
I'm confused (but like I said I have an e-mail into Dennis for clarification)....

I wouldn't assume anything. I think DR is very busy and it might have slipped by him especially if you didn't specificaly ask for a "4.10" tune.

Is it an xcal 2? I thought gear ratios was one of the end user functions that you could change without having to have your tuner change it.

It is an X-Cal 2.
So if anyone could possibly walk my 6 year old self through how to plug it in, find out what gear ratio it's running, and then, adjust accordingly, I'd appreciate it....
You can PM me with a phone number and I'll call you on my dime if that helps.

I don't have an Xcal 2 but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night. j/k:D
http://www.sctflash.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3177 I think that .pdf should have what you are looking for. I don't have adobe, had to reformat my computer and havent gotten around to installing it. If not someone on that forum should be able to help you with any xcal 2 specific questions.

Hopefully they did actually flash it instead of thinking they did.

Would the shift points be different if they hadn't flashed it?

Apply some logic?
If your speedo is off in accuracy, your wrenches have flashed the aftermarket tune.
Adding a PI Stallion torque converter gets you to your shift points sooner, but it does not make the shifts "harder".
The difference between the PI Stallion and the OEM converter is diminished size and weight, and improved torque multiplication. This "feels" different to individual owners who post opinions here, however, this mod does not enhance line pressure, which is what builds faster shifting. Faster (i.e. "sooner") is not harder.
If your wrench flashed a tune adjust for 4:10 gears and you don't have them installed, your speedo would report slower speeds than you are actually driving.
If he flashed a tune for stock gears (3:55) and you have 4:10s in place, the speedo would report faster speeds than you are actually driving.
In both cases, aftermarket tires will also affect actual speed by one or two miles per hour.
Sorry, I don't have an XCal II myself, so, I can't offer any advice on questions specific to this HHP.

Your 'logic' sounds more confusing than mine...
Help me clarify...
The 4:10 gears were installed. If the aftermarket tune was flashed, the aftermarket tune would have had to be for the 3:55 gears because my speedo is reporting faster speeds than I am driving.
Therefore...how is it apparent that the wrenches flashed the aftermarket tune?
I think they either DIDN'T flash the aftermarket tune, or the aftermarket tune that they did flash was not tuned for the 4:10 gears....
Right?

Ask a confusing question, get a confused answer.

Whooo...Looking at this all from the top again, if you installed 4:10 gears and your speedo now runs faster than actual speed, the tune needs to adjust this to append for 4:10 gears. Either you got a tune without 4:10 gears, or, you have the stock tune in place.
Better?

Much better, Sarge. Thanks. And disregard my 'backatchya'...
(I figured you might have overlooked the original question or made a typo, but I couldn't help myself...felt like I got slapped by 'an old friend.')
All good here.
