View Full Version : Remember vent windows...

Man I sure miss vent windows...
for those youngsters among use...they were the little triagular shaped window that was positioned directly in front of the driver and passenger window. When opened they prevented the turbulant air from blowing in the main window...
I really love rolling along with my window down, but the air blast is unbelievable...

Do the window deflectors like "weathertechs" prevent this...?

I also miss the air vent under the dash that was simply cable controled...you want fresh air, just pull the knob...Oh well that's another story....:D

I remember my dads and my grandpas trucks had those. I also remember when the seals would get loose you had to fold up a piece of paper to make it seal all the way. Remember the whistling they created? You could hear them from down the street.

That must be where they got the idea for Whistle Tips. Woooooo-Wooooooo!!!

I know what you mean, but I find that if I have my two front windows down, and the rear ones down (or at least a couple of inches down), the wind coming in the drivers window is greatly reduced to nearly nothing. Have you given this a shot?

i too miss the vent windows and the vent under the dash!

ventshades do reduce the blasting of air with the window down. if you are not that hot you can roll down all 4 windows about an inch and no 'incoming' air, just gentle venting.

Vent windows were nice, but since today's car are so much more aerodynamic there's a lot of windflow in and around the front A-pillar area so they wouldn't work anymore. But you get a much quieter vehicle than a 1971 Dodge Dart or similar.
All engineering is trade-offs.

I've got vent windows in my 64 Galaxie and 58 TBird.

Another point, since these are non a/c cars, I'm able to open the vents all the way so that the incoming air is directed right at the driver or passenger.

Both cars also have the knobs for air vents, except the 58 TBird has the passenger knob right by the right knee of the passenger.

The 64 has both vent knobs coming right off the dash, one on each side of the steering column.

The weather techs stop rain coming in the car around the a pillar..
and allow some air flow with reduced noise but only when
the window is open about 2 inches..In winter the salt and
sand gets between them and they make crunching noises..
occassional wipe down needed..better than vent windows
they don't rust our sieze shut or leak..
If you are a smoker they allow the fumes to escape and
reduce the odor in the vehicle..reduce the air turbulance in the
car so ashes don't fly all over the car..

Tried several combinations...but I'll try this one too.....Thanks, architect

I too like the old vent "wing" windows. My 65 Dart GT and 66 Rambler Ambassador HT both have them. The under dash air vents and factory AC on the Rambler are controlled by pull knobs, sliding switches and buttons contained in the chrome plated "Weather Eye" labled control panel. Very sixties looking; the coldest temp setting is marked as "Desert Only", real handy for all that Florida desert driving. The car is originally from Arizona however, so I guess the setting makes sense.:D

They were serious about the "Desert Only" setting. If it was a humid day the AC could ice up from the condensation on the evaporator.
