View Full Version : Trilogy #1, Getting Closer
Jerry Barnes
06-13-2006, 06:26 PM
Well, as many of you know I have been working on Trilogy #1 to get my case of Diet Coke from MartyO. Tonight we took a step closer to tracking down my good friend Marty.
ET 1/4 10.80
MPH 1/4 126.00
60ft 1.47
330ft 4.40
ET@594ft 6.42
ET 1.8 6.87
MPH 1/8 99.09
1000' mph 114.48
1000' ET 9.00
It's not the record that my good friend Marty has achieved. But we are getting closer, Marty. I am putting my game face on.
A Big Thanks to my good friend Don Walsh Jr. for his tuning efforts and driving the car today. I sincerely appreciated him taking the time out of his busy day to come to the drag strip and help me out!!! I would also like to thank Chris, Mike Wesley and Joe for their friendship, help and support.
It's not the record, but I am energized. It really makes me appreciate all of the hard work that Marty and the others have done to run so fast in these cars. My hat is off to everyone that puts the time and money into this effort.
I will scan and post the official time slip tomorrow.
Have a great night!
Jerry

Holy Crap! That 60 ft time is unbelievable! Good job Jerry. Nice to see the work pay off for you.
Awesome.
I think its humorous that the 2 fastest Marauders are not even driven to record speeds by the guys who own them.
Oh well.

Thanks for letting me be one of the first people you called today about the new time. Congrats on that great ET my friend. . Low 10's are right around the corner.
BTW Zack, I will let comment more on this but I think Don Walsh Jr. was driving the car to see about more tuning to be done. Don wanted Jerry to drive it but Jerry told Don to drive it so he could see how everything was tuned. Luck of the draw.
Time to have a cold one. Anyone up for some "Cool-Aid"????:D

Congrats on getting into the 10's. That is really moving. Any details on the mods that it takes to get you there?

Thanks for the comments.
I did not drive because we were still tuning the car. We did not expect it to run in the 10's. We had a few runs last week and still had some issues to work through, so it was a surprise. Trust me, I wanted to be in that seat more then anyone. But, it takes time to work through the tuning, as everyone knows. When it comes time to wrestle the title from Marty, my warm butt will be in the seat.
I will post pictures of the mods some time this week. But, as always it is a work-in-progress. There are still many other mods I have planned.
Sorry, no video. I wasn't expecting it to run that well. Kind of caught me off guard.
For those that don't know, I did not have a roll cage. So we did one run and they kicked us off the track. They told Don that if they caught the car on the track again, they would escort us to the gate. But they were nice about it!
Talk to you later!
Jerry
There goes 2 tenths with a roll cage.

Yep...But it's one of the few times in life where getting ejected has some honor attached to it.
10.8x...Nice work, Mr. Barnes.

Nice run Jerry. When you want me to tub #1, let me know!
I too don't have a cage so I'll not be running mine at the track... Don't want to be banned either! :D
Cheers!

Hey Jerry just come down here to VA/MD area, we got about 4 decent tracks nearby, that's 4 more 10sec runs!
I'll bring the video camera. :)
Anyway, congrats again on the run, looking forward to more 10sec Marauder runs!!

Soooo, is this the same set up I'll be getting when 132 arrives?
Heck, I'd be happy with an 11.80.
Nice.. real nice!
BTW Zack... I can't drive either. I'd bet that a good driver who knows what he'she is doing and cares nothing for my car's well being would have been at least at 13.9 in Bradeton.... maybe, probably.

Congratulations and thank you for the phone call! News of this kind is always welcome.
As for Jerry and Marty not being the pilot for the recent record and near record setting runs, let me say this about that: I know each of them and I know they are both proud of themselves and what they have accomplished both personally and in the business world. Now can they can each be proud of their cars.
Great Numbers!!!! That 60' time is SICK!
Go Jerry!!

Great Job on the run. You have got to come to the SSHS6 shootout at Atlanta Dragway in November. Impala meat is very tasty in the Fall.

Jerry: If I have to give up the Diet Coke it might as well be to my good friend! :D
Meanwhile, let me just say holy moly! I may need the two tenths penalty that Zack is handing out for the cage. I may have to go scrape the 200 pounds of dynomat out of my car! :D

Yes thats great but a good roll cage could cut as much as 2 tenths.

Yeap, Zack has a firm grasp of the obvious  Will a roll cage slow down the car if nothing else changes?...of course, does Jerry know this? Yes.
Is Jerry prepared for it? I have no doubt, Jerry did not become the success that he is today by getting caught off-guard too many times....Jerry will make his car go as fast as he wants it to go.:D

Why couldn't the roll cage be made out of a little 6al4v titanium? As strong (actually stronger) than steel but much lighter. This should save 1/10th :)

And, why shouldn't he? He is trying to take my case of Diet Coke away from me!! :D
As strange as it sounds, I want him to beat my record. And then I will finally have a reason turn the wick up on my car! :D

That is exactly what I hope will happen, and I hope both Marty & Jerry will not be satisfied until their Marauders get into the 9's...why??? because there are 2 Impala SS in the 9's...that's why!!!:D
That is the spirit Marty! Friendly competition.

Marty,
You are a good friend and a very worthy competitor! It's you that got me into this crazy fastest time thing, but I am lovin every minute of it!!!!
It's amazing what a grown man will pay to get a case of Diet Coke!
I was going to Maple Grove this past weekend to race, but what's the point if they are going to kick me off the track.
And as far as Zack goes, well he loves to yank my chain. And that's O.K. I yank his chain too! I am going to Joliet AGAIN this year Zack, oh that's right you will be in the Show n' Shine section of the event.
I hear Zack has his paperweight, I mean supercharger for sale. He must want to get into the 13's(HA!).
I will say that I am running THE SAME SUPERCHARGER that I originally installed on Trilogy #1 three years ago and its keeps going and going and going......
That may change soon since we have become a dealer for Lysholm Twin Screw superchargers, but for now, we are sticking with what we started with and working on weight, tuning, etc.
The motor has a forged bottom end, but no modifications to the original engine specifications( no cams, no bored out, no stroking, etc.).
But, Marty we will have to get our respective drivers(you know about Zack's comment) to battle it out on the track as we stand by and sip martini's with our ascots on(ha ha ha).
But seriously, I enjoy the friendly bantering between SOME of the Chicago crowd. I know we had our differences, and that's O.K. At the end of the day, we all enjoy our Mercury Marauders.
Once again, thanks for the great comments from everyone. I hope everyone enjoys this stuff as much as I do.
And don't forget, we are going to Martin Michigan in July, Joliet in July, Columbus in August, Woodward Dream Cruise in August, etc. Please stop by and have a couple of soda pops with us. It's great to see all of our friends again!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Jerry

Jerry,
Maple Grove is 20 minutes from my home. If you go there and don't give me a heads up, I'll swap your Diet Coke for RC!!!
Why don't you just go ahead and put that Lysholm Twin in my order and I'll test it out for you....

I would love to go to Norwalk, but we are going to Martin, Michigan this year. Norwalk has always been a annual event for us, but this year the NMRA race is the same weekend. Norwalk is one of the nicest track we visit and the people that own the track do a great job. I will miss it this year.
