I had been toying with the idea of selling my '04 Marauder. Every time I make a payment on it I think, "Why did I buy this car?" You see, my wife and I both commute to work on our motorcycles, the car gets used mostly for grocery shopping and on the occasional rainy day. What do I need such a big car for? And a cheaper car would put a couple hundred dollars back in my pocket each month (which could go toward a third bike, cause it's always good to have a spare). So just for giggles, I went to Car Max last weekend to see how I'd come out in a trade for a lesser vehicle. While waiting for the appraisal, I sat in several cars, trucks and SUVs. The more cars I looked at, the more I appreciated my Marauder. They offered me $18,000 outright, $19,000 if I trade for one of their cars. Maybe the smart thing would be to trade, but I'd miss the whole "pride of ownership" thing. I've got to confess, I do get a kick out of it when the parking valet remarks about what cool car it is, or how it's the first one he's seen. Living in Vegas, how could I drive anything less? I guess I'll be driving it for a long time after all.

Good for you! Dealerships/salesmen are good at insulting potential trades, etc.

Godspeed!

Mike.

$18K, but 19K of a trade? Yeah, right. The car's worth what it's worth. That type of crap makes me walk right out of the dealership.

I'll stop bashing car dealerships as soon as I meet one honest salesperson. Even the guy I bought the MM from (who did a great job until I was to sign something) "accidentally" switched two numbers around on the sales agreement. Of course the swtich would have resulted in several hundred dollars more on the price. :shake:

:coolman: Bob,
Glad you talked yourself out of that one! It really does make you feel good when you get the eye or hear the remark. It ain't no exotic, but it's exotic enough for me!
