View Full Version : Front Wheel Bearings
I need some technical info on the front suspension if anyone can help.
I want to check the front wheel bearing condition. I just bought the car and haven’t ordered a shop manual yet. I have an intermittent clicking (corresponds to rolling speed) that the dealer “could not duplicate” yesterday when it was in for some miscellaneous work.
Can someone post the front wheel bearing torque procedure and values?
Thanks

A stone stuck in the tread.??
jack up the tire..grab the top and bottom of the tire
try and tilt the tire if it clunks its loose if it doesn't
it be ok!! bearings squeal/screech..or really loose
clunk..
CV joints click while turning on FWD.cars
I may be wrong, but I think we have a sealed hub and bearing assembly, not a serviceable bearing set. Check for loose wheels or disk brakes with chunks of rust falling out of the vents.

Check your godshead center caps, two of mine rattled me to death before I found out what it was. Pop them out and tension the "c" clip, and it should go away.
Thanks for the tips...
Sealed bearings eh...I like greasing wheel bearings! (not really)
I thought about the stone in tread theory at first, but this only occurs on a cold start up for about the first 500 feet...very strange.

Lug nut caps could be loose..??Possible too, the lug nuts are two piece assemblies that can't endure a lot of tire changes.
Lug nuts were good. I did find one cap that was loose enough to possibly cause some noise, thanks for the tip in the repair! Couldnt duplicate the noise by turning the wheels by hand...and I didnt bother pulling wheels because they felt tight. (1 and 3...12 and 6 no noises)
Washed and waxed her...sheesh...I thought washing the truck was work. LOL
If I find the cause I will sure post up...
