Well, I can't say this has the best of weeks for me.
Yesterday my son's TBird gets totalled, today...

This is only the second time I've taken the Marauder on a business trip.
Driving between Benson NC and Fayetteville NC on I95 I'm cruising at 79 and a half in the fast lane, when I have to slow for a Sequoia that's putzing at 64 and a half, with no one in the slow lane.
So I wait for them to get out of the way, they don't for a mile, so I pass them on the right.
As I'm passing, they kick up a stone that hits my windshield in the low passenger side of the car.
A star is born...:bigcry:
So I'd like to hear from folks that have replaced their windshield.
The good news is that Florida law requires Insurance companies to replace with no deductable...but I will watch every move when they do it.
Any comments are appreciated.

OMG! Cringe City. Maybe you should stay put for a while!
I'm so sorry for the rotten luck  . The only way out of the valley is up!

Have it replaced with the factory windshield with the wide band of tint on the top.

jimlam, the Blackbird needed a new windscreen a while back, too. We called Safelite's 877 number and they directed us to the nearest shop (15 minutes away). The shop attempted to fix the "star", but said it might be too late for a fix. They said if it didn't work, they would deduct the cost of the fix from the windscreen replacement, if we ended up needing one. We did. I explained to them very carefully that this was NOT a Grand Marquis, and I would not accept a GM windscreen. I worried for nothing. They got the right one the first time, and replaced it in about an hour. The glass looks and fits just like the original; you can't tell it was ever replaced. AND they deducted the cost of the attempted fix, just like they said they would, with no prompting from me. I highly recommend Safelite.

This has happened to me twice . I now do not get more then 4-5 car lenths behind a big rig and if I can get around him , the better I am. my Ins: Co informed me here in NY to next time record the license plate of any vehicle that throws up any items from the rear wheel and give it to them. what they do with it , I have no idea...

Well I just had my windshield replaced yesterday so I may be of some help to you. My insurance company covered the replacement at no cost to me or price jack in my deductible. For me they came to my house during the day and replaced it, took one guy about 45 minutes. They replaced it with an OEM windsheild which was just as good as new. Today I had the windshield strip tint added.

I had mine replaced over a year ago and when the guy cut the seal across the top I saw silver paint chips flying!!:argue: :mad2: It seems our windshields are put in very high in the opening and the knife gouges the paint at the top between the edge of the glass and the roof!!:bigcry:

My guy actually carries some heavy black rust preventative paint to cover the bare metal (brushed it on with two heavy coats).....The rubber lip covers it so it isn't visible but eventual rust through could be a problem!!:(

Be sure your replacer has some or get some yourself just incase??:help:

Good Luck!!

Mine was done awhile back too. Some where in here is a thread that details all my whining and complaining over it.
In the end BG Glass came to my house, did the replacement in my garage, with a FORD replacement. Out of pocket was $50.00.
I'm happy.

I highly recommend Safelite.
Me too !! Although I have not had to replace the windshield on my MM (knock on wood), Safelite replaced 2 windshields on my '94 T-Bird and one on the E-150 van. I deal directly through my USAA insurance and they arrange for Safelite to come to work or home or whatever and replace it on the spot. Only takes about 30 minutes tops. I've always been happy with the work.

My MM is on its 3rd w/s. When I got mine, it had a PPG w/s in it.
While the wholsesaler (who I bought my MM from) was driving my car to sell to me, 3/4 of the outer molding came loose and flew off. After getting that fixed, My inside mirror fell off, taking the inside part of the glass with it. My insurance company covered it 100% and gave me OEM Carlite brand.

Mine was replaced in the wreck repair.

In general replacing a windshield is really no big deal for a trained and practiced installer.

Terry and I have often had windshields removed for installations and then replaced. Really no big deal.

On our cars, the rubber moulding around the windshield is a push-in friction fit. When they're done, Peel it up about 1/2 way and put dabs of silicone about every 3 inches and a decent little blob on the bottom under that triangular plastic piece. You will notice a tiny bit of new wind-noise, but it will settle as the moulding re-takes it's shape in the sun.

Dont, worry, Jim. It'll be fine.

I didnt know our windshields were not the same as Grand Marquis or Crown Vics. Whats the difference in them?

There at least three different windshields listed for the Marauder.

I had my windshield replaced a couple of months ago. The first place I called quoted me $148 installed, so I didn't bother to call anyone else. It looks just the one that came on the car, so I don't know about any differences between the GM and MM shields.
