I had major oil issues under severe use, extended 70-80mph boat towing on 85F day. The engine used 2 quarts in 600miles. It had never used any prior to that. This was conventional 5W-30, the only oil called for by my manual.

I have switched to a full synthetic.

Motorcraft 5 W 20 Synthetic Blend with motorcraft filter. Jefferson I don't believe Motorcraft makes a 5 W 20 Synthetic. John

Quite a few people have said the dealer put in whatever they brought with them (Mobil 1, etc)...so many dealers apparently don't think it's all that critical...

Dealers are using 5W-20... at least that's what it says on the service receipt

I think the dealer really doesn't know and I will use the Motorcraft 5 W 20 Synthetic Blend as recommended in the owners manual. To date the only 5 W 20 oil I have seen was Motorcraft. IMHO. John

Just got her first Amsoil 3000 fillup - 5w30

Good for 25K........

Plus the Amsoil synthetic filter.......

'Course she has 1000 miles on her now..... (picked up 5/31)

4 oil changes with filters in the first thousand to get the casting nodules/flash and sand from the casting out first though...

And you thought I was anal......

currently Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend, switching to Mobil 1 0w-20 after break in. FYI, Havoline and Valvoline both make non-synthetic 5w-20.

JohnnyB,
If it's Motorcraft (most likely) then it's synthetic blend.
