My car's in the shop right now getting the TCE Willwood's installed. Salesman called offering me an H.I.D. installation for $800.00. (I have no idea what brand, but it includes everything - ballast, etc.)

Any thoughts?

There is usually a kit on eBay for around $395.00. Of course that doesn't include installation.

Most HID kits loose the High beam option, probably not a biggie if you live in the city but high beams are useful when light is lacking or your in rural areas.

I'm going to be getting a 5000K or 6000K Bi-Xenon (low & high beam) from http://www.xenonking.com/ I forget who has a kit from these guys but they said it was good and a friend of mine just got their 8000K and install was a breeze and the product was pretty good quailty, didn't look cheap.

If I am not mistaken, Aftermarket HID's are not Street Legal. Just a consideration.

Had them in my Marauder from 2004 before high beam was an option.

I give them a 9/10 vision wise. HUGE improvment in seeing at night.

I installed them myself, it was a breeze. They pluged right into the factory

harness, all I had to do was install the bulbs and hide the wires. I paid

$300,00 and had no issues with the kit. I would get the high beam option

as you might have trouble getting an inspection sticker.

Oh my gosh...Did you hear that guys? This isn't 100% legal. I can't believe it. All this time I thought it was legal, but it isn't, what a horrible thing of me to even consider. "Aftermarket HIDs=ILLEGAL" Now I know what to tell the tuner next to me in traffic when he rolls his window down - just a fair warning before we both slowly and evenly accelerate when the light turns green. This is bewildering, can anyone else confirm? say it isn't so? I better take off my front window tints and aftermarket exhaust because... *gulp* those are illegal too! I'd hate to break the law...EVER. Thank you so very much KillJoy for your legal advice and consultation, may I have your E-mail address so we can review my next modification? Make sure there are no red flags? I'd really appreciate it!

What did you do to add ANYTHING constructive to this thread?

What he said!! I even liked the Captain Crunch with the berries in it.

HID's may be illegal but in some places they may even consider the Stock Marauder exhaust to be too loud.
I say its all legal til you get caught.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the best cereal ever. Only cereal where when I buy a box dont last to the next day will eat the whole box in one sitting. I swear they put crack in with the cinnamon.

Oh and the only prob I see with HID in a car that doesnt come with it is the constant flashing other people will be doing cause they will think you have your highs on. Cars that come equipped with HID have special housing that auto level the bulb so when you go over bumps the light doesnt shine in peoples eyes. But this is only a prob if you live in a place with alot of potholes railroad track etc etc, like MI. But hell who cares about other people I get flashed if I hit pothole and going over railroad track with just having silverstars.

Thanks for all the 411. I thought the price was way too high when I heard it - this just confirms...I think I'll skip this mod anyway...

From what I have read in the past, HID conversion kits that just replace the bulb and use the OEM housing are illegal. Kits that replace the entire housing are legal. This is because the bulb conversion/replacement kit still uses the OEM reflector and does not disperse the HID light properly.

The type of kit that replaces the entire housing with a projector type bulb are legal I believe because they are "made" to function together. That is why they are more expensive.

But this can all come down to local laws too.

I got my kit for $275 on ebay with McCollum ballasts. I installed them myself into my fog lights. I had to do a bit of custom work to get them to fit since the fog H1 fits into an adapter. I had to make a custom adapter out of the stock adapter.

But just having them in my foggies as a supplement is great. I hardly even drive with my headlights unless I'm on a dark country road.
