I am upgrading my rotors and pads and have a problem...I cannot get the rear rotor off, I have tried a gear puller, liquid wrench, hammer and nothing is working. Does anyone have any suggtestions or am I missing something obvious. :help:

When I did my gears I had a hell of a time getting that rear rotor off.
I sprayed it with WD-40 and had at it with a hammer.
you are replacing it anyways so dont worry about ruining it

When I did mine, I soaked them in liquid wrench, then went and had a beer. I came back, pounded them with a hammer, soaked 'em some more, then went for another ber. . After a while I came back, pulled, hammered a little more and sat there scratching my head. I found that if you can get them to wiggle just a little bit you're almost there. Just keep on it.

P. S. Aplly anti-seize lubricant when installing the new ones.

try alternating hitting the back of the rotor and then the front, That may work some of the rust out of it

Is Liquid Wrench or WD-40 flamable? If it is before you try soaking them heat the "hat" of the rotor with a propane torch. It will expand the rotor enough that it will break free. If you go the Liquid Wrench or WD-40 route, after soaking hammer the "hat" of the rotor. The rotor "hat" is where the rotor mounts on the axle. BTW... you need to use a BFH...

I'm in the same boat as you but I need to get my rotor off to fix my E brake. I still haven't been able to get the thing off. I also don't want to beat the crap out of it as I am not replacing it yet. I was told that there may be some clips on the lugs you need to remove first. Mine didn't have them though. I'll be following this post with great interest.

You can also get yourself 2 bolts that will fit in the holes that arent being used by the lugs and make your own threads in them with the bolts and just alternate till she comes off thats for you Mifuni as far as if your replacing the rotors BFH is how I did it. BFH=Big F Hammer.

Heat the center of the Hat where it aligns on the axle flange..heating the gap between them will burn off some of the corrosion holding the rotor on..
hit the flat part of the hat between the studs (the end of the axle)
careful don't hit the studs..otherwise what he said!!
don't hit the outside of the hat near the stud holes you'll crack the hub..
Release the park brake!

Update....after 4 hours of hammering, prying, bending the center pin on my gear puller, and a can of liquid wrench, I am defeated. I have the fronts installed but will have to take the suggestions from this thread and start fresh...Thanks for everyones help

How about trying to engage and release the parking brake a few times. Maybe this will loosen it up.

I'm gonna try the torch thing tonight. :flamer:
Probably not a good idea to soak it down with WD40 first, huh? :P

The hammer thing works best. It's stuck due to electrolysis.
Make sure the ebrake is OFF!.
Hit it at 12, then 6, then 3, then 9 o'clock. Keep doing this. It will eventually wiggle and come free.
As I said in your last thread, re-intall with a THIN, SMOOTH coat of anti-seize.
You got my number. Call me if you need to.

have used a small sledge hammer hitting the rotor from the inside. then rotate the rotor 1/4 turn and pound again. it should come loose little by little just keep it even when removing. at least the new rotor will slide on nice and easy
good luck
