View Full Version : Hope there's room for GM owners here. Exhaust question

I have an 03 Grand Marquis GS with the convenience package (traction control, power pedals, etc) and will be converting to dual exhaust soon. PIcked up a set of the Marauder tips since they just make the look of the rear of the car.

Question: Does anyone have any factory schematics or graphics on the proper placement of the tips? Want a factory look, not the "redneck" homemade duals sticking 8 inches out from under the bumper!

Thanks.

There seems to be an excellent exhaust specialist here. Just search for "On the Rack". Haven't used his services yet, but I will...

Where are you located? If you're in Georgia, you're in luck.

They should be placed in the center of the rear facia cut-outs on each side (unique to the Marauder & CV-Sport/PI models). As far as distance out from the rear...basically personal preference (aesthetics) and want for cabin noise reduction usually dictates.

Here is an example found in the gallery on a CV....

Personally...I'm not too much of a fan of doing "Marauder-Style" tips unless the vehicle has the cut-outs. You can still do the duals...just do turndowns like on the CVPIs....

Actually, all CV and GMs have cutouts in the bumper. It woudln't make sense for Ford to go to the trouble of stamping 2 kinds of CV bumpers and 2 kinds of GM bumpers just because one had the HPP/Sport/LSE/CVPI option.

There are several examples of tips installed on various panthers. All 98+ GMs have the cutouts but not as well defined as those on a CV Or Marauder.
Since your car already has the 4 cats that Y into a single, you could easily replace the Y pipe with an H and add piping to match the passenger side. Im assuming you wont be keeping the factory muffler so you will add 2 aftermarket units, so that won't matter. Most people that purchase tips from me for their GM/CV cut the pipe back far enough to install them in correctly. Keep in mind the MM tip is 26" long.

But...they actually did...as you state below

Mercury = 2 stampings 1 for GM 1 for Marauder
Ford = 2 stampings 1 for CVs 1 for CV Sports

Agreed^^^...I have the Megs tips on hand at all times, as well...I just stated my personal opinion that they look rather awkward without the cut-outs (hang way to low...pointing down, etc. like can be seen in these pics) on the "run of the mill" GM/CV without the cutouts....

Agreed on the Mercury, One for GM, one for MM but they both had cutouts on both sides.

Negative on the Ford. Ford CVs 98-02 is all the same p/n, YW7Z17K835CA
03+ CV lists the bumper cover as 3W7Z-17K83-AAA
Thats the only part numbers listed for the rear bumper cover. I dont show a listing for a Sport.

The CV Sport rear bumper is the same as all of the other CV's, including the PI. The only part that would be different is the inner molding.

Wow! More response than on that "other" Panther site! My GM os an 03 and has the dual cutouts, as many 03+ Mercs and Fords I see. Maybe they're not as deep or pronounced as the CV Sport or Marauder, but they're there.

I am looking at Flowmaser 50s since I don't need to sound like every 19 year-old's Mustang in the world, but still want a little authority while on the road.

I have the Megs tips from Ford Performance and they should look nice when done. I guess amout an inch or so our from under the bumper will do it for looks.

After I set aside a few more bucks, I'm looking at American TorqueThrust Ds or the TQ11s (all chrome).

Now, lets see if I can attach a pic of the Merc on the day I brought her home...

Correct, the only difference is the LX Sport recieves body-colored bumper inserts, PIs either black or chrome for SAPs, and chrome for non-LXS civilians
