I am taking the Marauder in on the 17th to get the body work done and considering getting the rear spoiler now to have it painted at the same time. I remember back in December the dealer told me they cost about 260 and come painted. Is this the best place to get one and do they really come painted the correct color?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keith

I got mine from my local Ford dealer (I get a discount on parts) and had my Mercury dealer's body shop install it for $100. It came painted black from Ford.

I've read "The Dealer" on this forum has very good pricing.

You can get it painted or unpainted. If the body shop is going to be painting the back end of the car.. get the unpainted (cheaper) and have them paint it. You will get a better match.

If they aren't painting back there... the black matched close enough on my car.

I'd buy the painted one unless they are painting the rear of the car as stated prior. I am sure there are better deals (maybe even on this board) but that price seems at least competitive. I know the aftermarket piece runs about $175 or so.

Here is one I found online

If I was buying one and wanted the Ford part, I'd buy it from my dealer rather than online at the above price...the difference doesnt warrrant the trouble when you factor in shipping, possible delays in delivery, etc.

I believe Ray only orders them unpainted since the painted ones always end up with some shipping damage to the paint. But check with Ray.

Thanks for the tips. I figured there might be a better way to get one. Most of the painting is on the drivers side with a little touch up on the passenger rear near the exhaust tip. I could go either way. I spoke with the shop who is doing the work and they will paint it when the do the side and I will install it when I get it back.

Try to install it before you get it painted, just in case, leave the tape strip backing on. It's a bit awkard and you don't want to risk nicking the paint.

Ha! They come painted if you like Black. Heehee

I had scuffs on front bumper fixed and spoiler done at same time. Body shop service writer guy thought I was crazy putting a spoiler on the MM until he saw the finished product glistening in the morning sun. Then he loved it. Magindat!

I just bought a brand new MM spoiler for my 01 Vic for $125 from a local Ford dealership. Thank God my Dad has a body shop. I got lucky someone had ordered this one and they never came back to get it. The guy said if not I would be looking about 3-4 months if no one had one in stock that they would get ride of. Mine come a gray color.

ALWAYS PAINT OFF THE CAR THEN INSTALL:nono:

Maybe i didn't make it clear do all your test fitting, aligning and holes drilled while spoiler is still primed. Then paint and do the final install.

I had the factory O.E.M. rear decklid spoiler installed last August by my selling dealer, Elmhurst Lincoln-Mercury. They supplied the spoiler, painting and the installation. Mike Spilatro, the body shop manager, handled the job personally. The cost was about $ 450.00 total cost. They did an absolutely magnificent job! I waited so long to get it installed because I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it or not. Despite the long time, the paint color match was perfect. Now I feel that I made the best decision because it looks so cool. I still understand why L-M didn't install the spoilers at the factory.
