View Full Version : How much mileage is too much...

to consider add a SC. My '04 MM currently has just under 25K on it. I have only put about 1500 mi. on it in the six months I've owned it, but I will probably be driving it a bit more over the next 6 months or so, and would anticipate it will have 32-34K by next spring, which is when I was planning on doing the Trilogy kit. Just wondering if this is still 'prudent' at this mileage, or do most owners add them when the cars have relatively low (under 10K) miles....
I don't really plan on hammering on the car, it will be back to occasional driving at that point....
thanx.

Nope....GO FOR IT!
I think quite a few folks have waited until the Factory Warranty expired to begin their power mods.... boost included.

My MM had 40K+ and over 100 runs down the 1,320' when I went S/C.
I have put over 20K and over 30 runs down the 1,320' since the S/C.
Original Long Block and she does not burn a drop of oil.
I suggest an oil analysis before the S/C or while she is still in warranty.

The 4.6L DOHC engine has been around since '96, it has quite a record for long term durability. The version we have in our Marauder (shared with the Mach I, and Aviator) are '03 editions of the same engine. Expect better in durability.
Supercharging is likewise a proven technology, and the main players have excellent records. However, as it can be with any sport or hobby, some folks take it upon themselves to flirt with the edge, and that's when stuff goes bad.
Look forward to having a lot of fun, but be responsible about it too.

I ran my 03 MM up and down the interstates from 11/02 to 2/05 as my work vehicle and racked up 85,000 miles. I couldn't part with it and have been modding ever since. Trilogy #131 went on about a month ago and I just topped 89,000. Running stronger than ever :D . It's a keeper!!!!!

Installed #61 at 34,xxx in April '05. Now has 46,xxx, a handful of dyno pulls and a half dozen trips down the 1320...zero problems.

Unknown as to how many miles while be on Blue Thunder when she gets supercharged. It's going to be a few years yet. Mileage is over 31000 already. Based on what I have read about our s/c vendors and their products on MMs I will have no qualms adding a s/c regardless of the mileage. I will trust them to set me up with a safe tune erring on the side of caution rather than maximum possible horsepower.

Drive it as much or as little as you like. I enjoy working in the garage and simply looking over at the beast as it waits for me to jump in and go for a ride.
You can install the S/C anytime. But do it soon rather than later - trust me :D

Carfixer and I have installed well over a dozen blowers on cars with mileage ranging from a few thousand to well over 50k. Don't even think twice about it. If you'd like a first-hand expirience of a stock Trilogy kit, we can meet up. I'll happily toss you the keys on one condition: You beat the ***** out of it. :burnout:
In fact, I'll be in Tampa most of the day tomorrow...

Believe me - do not delay in getting the Trilogy SC kit. It is a real blast. Unreal power - you are the fastest car on the road except for some really rare cars at least in GA. Even a stock GT 500 (accordingly to several road tests in car magazines) cannot beat a Trilogy with normal mods.
A Happy Owner,
Glenn :burnout:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The SC thing is not a question of IF, but WHEN.
Tallboy, next time you might be in the Tampa area, drop me a PM..I'd love to meet up and give your ride a try.
