View Full Version : For those who bought their MM used...

Do you sometimes feel unhappy about your purchase? And by this, I mean do you feel like you got your MM, but then when you see classifieds for another MM with lower mileage, or a different color or lower price or something, you kick yourself for not waiting and grabbing that one?
I know it's always the case of "what-could-have-been" and maybe just a tiny bit of buyer's remorse... but I'm just wondering if the Marauder you bought just wasn't the "perfect" Marauder for you.

There was a new DTR on the lot with the deep rebates and 0% interest that I was using as leverage / second option during my negotiates to buy the used '03 300a I have now. I'm actually glad I didn't buy it. That DTR might have been the Marauder that another local member (maraudernkc) bought at the same dealership not soon after I bought my used Marauder, so I like to think it was a bit of Karma going on there.
If there was a Blue to choose from at the time I would have regretted the decision later, but I didn't even see on until 9 months later at MVII. By that time I was too emotionally attached to mine.

yep bought the car in another state and had it shipped to the dealership near me who mysteriously had 2 there. Spent 6 months out of town test driving cars, and all I had to do is wait 10 days...*sigh*

I wish I could of got mine cheaper but didnt really have a choice if I wanted a MM. I had horrible credit from a bankruptcy. The dealership I found my used one at was willing to work with some bad credit style banks to help me get into it and within 20 minutes of filling out the paperwork had an approval. I think if I had went anywhere else they would of laughed me out of the showroom once they saw my credit score. But hey got mine got a decent payment even though I'm sure if I shopped around could of gotten it cheaper it was the willingness to work with me that kept me in that dealership to get this one even though I probably paid a little more.

I wish I bought a silver birch Marauder.... But seeing one for sale in south FL with low miles is rare... So I jumped on the first one.

No regrets. Mine had low mileage and the asking price was about average. I got another few bucks off and some extras included. I happened to open some junk mail (which I NEVER do) that turned out to be an invitation to a Lincoln dealer open house. Jumped online to see if they had a Marauder...and they did. Looked at the car Saturday night after they closed, drove it home Monday.

I was driving a silver 1995 SHO when I discovered the Marauder (thanks Tom, 'MarauderTJA'). His was silver with a sunroof and I offered to buy it right then. Tom declined and I went on my way for the next 11 months looking for that combo. I actually bid on a black '03 in Houston but was barely outbid and the auction never reached reserve. I gave up temporarily on the Marauder idea and was trying to find a supercharger kit for the newer Duratec Taurus (that was choice #2, followed by Maxima, Altima SE-R and Lexus GS430) The Taurus was affordable and could be blown according to Roush literature I had in my hand. I had no luck with Roush and was shopping for supercharger options when I found Trilogy Motorsports and saw the Marauder again. I found CarFixer on the Trilogy website and told him my dilemma and he promptly found my current silver/moonroof/heated seats '04 that I bought in Miami. He ran a Carfax on it and it came back with previous light side collision damage but you cannot tell. I used that Carfax info and jewed the price down from $25,999.00 to $24,300 PAID IN FULL with TT&T total price. Mine had 13,000 miles on her and new tires all the way around. I have never been happier with a car than I am with my Merc. The car makes me smile every time I hear that ROAR when I pull away from some "speed demon" in a riceburner. I could not be MORE thrilled in the one I got. It was everything I looked for and gets more rare every day.

I've never regretted buying mine used. I was looking at a remaining new one that was identical to the used one I bought. With only 8900 on the clock and in perfect shape I saved a bundle compared to the price I would have had to pay for the new one.
It has been (and continues to be) a great ride!

It was between a silver one with 19k miles and a black one with 24k miles, I jumped on the black. After a week of enjoying my car, a call comes in from the dealership where I purchased my car, They said they just got in a 04 black, fully loaded MM with 16k miles on it and if I knew anyone who would be interested in it.
I told my co-worker about it and he picked it up that weekend. I wish I waited a week!

Having paid 38K for a new 03 300a. I feel pretty good about my purchase of a used 03 300b with 23ooo mi for 21k. Yeah there were cheaper ones and there was that blue one up north but I just felt more comfortable buying a local car from this area. My only regret is that I can't afford to do the mods right now. I want turbo power!

NO and HELL NO. Am I getting screwed on the interest rate...yep. Was she used a little...yep to the tune of 36K. I like to think of it as broken in for me. Can she still take an off ramp rated at 35mph at 60mph solid...yep to that one too. Does she still put a smile on the faces of those that ride...yep. New or used...doesn't really matter to me...the fun factor is new everytime she starts.

When I started looking for an MM all I saw were high priced 50K+ miles 03/04 black ones and 1 silver 04 with 40K miles here in MD. Dealer listed the car for $22,995, I talked them down to $21,445. Seeing the pricing now on the ones on autotraders.com, ebay.com, cars.com, and here I think I could of got a better deal and I paid more than I should have but the vehicle had all the service records and was traded back in at the dealership it was sold brand new from and was mint looking besides a few spots on the interior. All an all I'm happy that I went ahead and bought it. Now the wife wants a dark pearl blue one and spots out more MM's then I do when we are out driving.

Right after the Marauders first came out I looked to see what kind of resale they were getting and it was horrible. New $35K cars were $22k when you drove them off the lot. So I ordered a 2005 Mustang Gt and hoped it would feed my appetite. Well, it didn't happen then I noticed the resale of the MM's were going up a little bit and I decided to dump my stang for an 04 DTR with 13k miles for $21,800.
If I could do it again it would be an 04 Silver Birch. That DTR is just too hard to keep looking clean. I feel for you guys with black cars.

Yes, I was inchs from getting a brand new 04' for $27,000 but found an
03' with 6,800mi for $23,000. Big mistake. There was a reason the last
owner traded on it. Oddly enough, I miss it very much. :(

yes, i do. even though i got my 03' 300A for a decent price, it has...
50k miles - 55ish now
needed new rear tires - all 4 replaced now, front ones too :D
right rear fender needs to be touched up - one of these days
hood has a small chip in it with a handful of smaller ones scattered where a hood skirt would go - will fix when i get a badgeless grill
tint is turning blue bc previous owner was a cheap ass i guess - replacing with 15% metalized asap
interior seats are fairly worn - /shrug
for the first month i wanted to look for another one but with my credit so thin and the time it took just to find the one i got my hands on... i deceided i was too picky and became content with what i have :)
it still overwhelms me a little thinking about all the stuff i wanna do to it with such limited funds, but hey... if worse comes to worst, i'll just sell it for a better conditioned one when i have that option.
you couldn't pay me cash for this car without me having the replacement marauder in, right behind it

I paid a pretty good price for my black 2004. Black was the only color I could find here in CT. I wished I had waited because I really like the silver or the DTR but I still love my black one and I am very happy with it.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I created this thread because before I bought my Marauder, I would browse the Washington Post classified everyday, and even online to check on the status of Marauders in the area.
I graduated college in December and I have a well-paying career that I can actually afford to make car payments and I told myself if I ever found a Marauder, I'd go ahead and get it.
Well I got it, and like most of you have been saying, I have no real regrets about purchasing it. Although I do still check the classifieds and see Marauders with lower mileage and lower prices. That's basically why I made this thread. To see if other people had the same thing.
I think it's time to stop thinking about what could've been and start working on what shall be!

I tend to do all of my research up front and drag my feet on any car purchase. By the time I am ready to pull the trigger on the sale -- I have a pretty good idea about the marketplace. I dragged my feet for more than a year on the Marauder before I jumped into the deep end of the MM pool. :D
Not a good idea to keep browsing classifieds making comparisons on your purchase -- there's nothing to be gained.

I think it's more of a way to guage an "average" assesment. Basically, seeing what prices were for Marauders with 19 - 30 K miles, prices from 30-60K miles and prices from 60K +
I wanted a (relatively) low mileage Marauder, for a reasonable price. Keeping tabs on the classifieds help me make an educated assumption of whether I was paying to much or not.
Meh, I think that if you know what the Marauder is, you really don't need to have the saleperson tell you anything about it. You already know everything!

This past December I was going to purchase a Mustang or a Thunderbird, but wife asked me to please get a four door. I told her the only four door I liked was a Chrysler 300C SRT 8 - $54,000 (thinking she would then OK the 'Stang or T-Bird.) But no-- she asked what other four door would I consider. Thinking she would never find one (I was in a hurry- unfortunately totalled my previous T-Bird and needed to get a car in a hurry) I told her I would like a Marauder. Darn if she didn't find three on the Internet - Black, SB and a DTR. I looked at the first two (in Clearwater and Tampa) but decided on the third (DTR) sight unseen from Ft. Meyers. Bought it over the Internet with a credit card (deposit) and an out clause that if it wasn't exactly as described I got every penny refunded. The car was as described and I drove it home.
No regrets at all. 15 thousand less than new, 18 months of warranty left, only 26,000 miles. I think I got a great deal and love the car.

Buying a car is like buying a computer. You can pay the cash up front and get all the bells and whistles you want, but in 3 months there will be something that you think is better. The idea is simple. Do your research, but get what you want. Now all you have to do is enjoy YOUR ride, and don't look back. Oh Yea and BTW grats on graduation, and making wise decisions. May your future be blessed with more of the same.

It's the same feeling I had when rebates were announced less than 30 days AFTER I bought my '03. It will go away after a few full throttle runs. Rumor has it that mine did 140 somewhere in Mississippi during the 2003 Hot Rod Power Tour. Probably urban folklore, but I might have been there. :nono:

All other things being equal, I would have rather had a blue or black, and I think I could have paid less than I did. $18,700 for an '03 300b, 42k miles, in 11-06--but it does have almost 3 years of extended powertrain warranty.
However, I wasn't in a situation to be choosy--my Mark VIII had been totaled and I was left borrowing a car for my daily transportation, so I needed something in a reasonable timeframe. 3 MM's were for sale within 100 miles of me while I was shopping, and all of them were silver. The first was sold by the time I saw the ad, the third was more than I could spend, and I bought the second. I think it was meant to be. :) And the powertrain warranty is *very* good for peace of mind...

Not much MM's in Hawaii. The car was covered with over spray and dirty, which is why I think no one bought it. But I knew I could clay the thing to death to get off the over spray, and make it my own. 300A 28,000 miles on the clock, interior looked brand new and a clear carfax. I was a little nervous at first, but as I worked off the over spray the better I felt. Now, it's a beautiful shiney black pearl that I stole from the previous owner for the price I paid. Could not be HAPPIER!!!

I wanted a black one with the lowest mileage and I found it in Alberta. It came to my place - in Quebec - by train. Mileage was 6,2K, compared to 9,5K today after 1 year 1/2 in my hands. I understood that I would not use it as a daily commuter : too exclusive, too nice, too thin paint job...and lots of potential in tuning for the coming years. Because of the MM, I bought a MGM LSE which makes my day, everyday - about 45K miles per year.
So far, I do not regret my purchase(s) : both of them give me a lot of fun in their own style, and yet without any breakdown.
