I dropped off my 2003 MM at a local L&M dealership for the infamous blue smoke at startup issue. As expected they informed me that "this blue smoke you are seeing is normal. All high performance engines run rich at startup." :bs: I told them that these vehicles (MM's) did not come from the factory blowing smoke. They continued to ignore the smoke and attempted to reassure me that everything was alright because my oil consumption test came back negative. So after being jerked around for 2 weeks I decided to take my Merc back to the place of purchase, Acton Lincoln Mercury in Acton,MA. First off I must say if any one is in the area of Acton and looking to purchase a FLM product, please give these people a shot. They are amazing. My car was towed there after hours on a saturday, by mid-day monday they had already performed a compression test and the drivers side cylinder head was showing problems. they tore cylinder head apart and had the valve seals replaced by Thursday. Monday rolls around again and after sitting for four days they start my MM up again. MORE blue smoke:(. I was given a call saying that there were still traces of blue smoke and a request was being put in to the tech line at ford to see what the plan of action should be. The tech informed them to disassemble the exhaust all the way up to the headers and see which side of the engine the smoke is coming from. That was done and smoke was shown coming out of both driver and passenger sides of the engine. Another call was put into the tech line and they gave Acton Lincoln Mercury the ok to REPLACE MY ENTIRE ENGINE .
Lets just say I did not expect to receive a new engine out of this, but I am defiantly not complaining.
Congrats.
Run the next engine harder and you will have less blue smoke.

Nice! How many miles on your engine? Did it smoke every time, or just occasionally?

The odometer read 35,850. The smoke was most apparent when it sat overnight, but I did see smoke after letting sit as little as 3 hours.

Congrats! L/M was on your side. Make sure you get a few supercharger raffle tickets while your luck is running.

Mine has puffed a bit of smoke but very inconsistantly and only in cold weather??
I have seen no smoke in 5 months or so and have never had any oil consumption between oil changes!!
Good luck with your new engine.....How much warranty do you get on the replacement....12/12??

WOW, I am happy for you. I, however, blow blue smoke almost everytime I turn on the car from a cold start. Over 1 yr. of complaining to def ears.

It is possible that another dealer would have def ears that are deaf, but probably not... Take a printout of the SB with you...

I've been running Mobil 1 FS 5w-20 ever since I purchased the car. As for the warranty on the replacement engine I believe it is 12m/12k

Are you sure that the dealer is replacing your engine with a NEW versus REBUILT engine?

It has been my unoffical take that seemingly moderate driving of the MM tends to enhance the tendency of blue smoke to develop. I do not know of one driver who beats the s*** out of his MM has developed smoke. I could well be wrong. But with my MM I have been very hard on the engine when it was N/A and just as hard with the SC at 54,000 miles no smoke. I guess I am just lucky.

Welcome aboard.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems.
I only live about 20 miles away in Reading MA.
When did you get your car? Did you recently start on this site?
I have a good dealer too in Methuen, MA called Wall's Lincoln Mercury.

No blue smoke for me either. Don't think that I beat the s*** out of my MM. But I am pretty sure that "moderate" doesn't fit either. I like to hear the pipes frequently. :D

THOSE BASTARDS! Acton Linclon gave me the same BS. They gave me
nothing but headachs. Im gald to hear they answerd your call for help.
I bought mine there in September of 04'. Your Marauder came in right after
mine. I remember seeing it in the show room. All they did for my 'smoke'
was extend my warranty for another 25K. :shake:

New Member to this forum. Interesting topic as my Marauder bought in Lowell, MA also blew blue smoke on occasion at start up. It would be intermittent at best but stopped after I stopped having the oil changed at the dealer.
I started using Vavoline synthetic in the proper grade and have never seen it smoke again. Mine's an 04 just about to turn 20K. BTW - I'm a So. NH guy, Windham.

All the new Marauder create motors are gone. I would think it was a rebuilt engine, but I dont' have all the facts.

The original "crate" engines were engines scheduled for the assembly line, that became left-overs when priduction ceased. Once they dried up, it's remanufactured time.
But, that's no so bad either. IMHO, a remand engine stands to have all the known problems corrected, and you stand a better chance of getting a better replacement engine, than just what was left over.
