View Full Version : Chrysler Has Fender Tags, GM Has Glove Box Decals, Ford Has ????

Regarding what options a car came with from the factory. Chrysler uses fender tags or decals under the hood showing what major options their cars were built with. GM uses decals in the glove box or in the trunk showing their option codes.

So what does Ford use on their vehicles?

If I had the window sticker it would show all the options but I don't have the window sticker. I'm curious to find out if options like the cd changer and the trunk organizer were installed at the factory or by the dealer/previous owner.

Has Ford discontinued using paper build sheets like Chrysler & GM?

Where should I start looking?

I believe that there is a thread here somewhere that says the dealer/a dealer can get you another window sticker printed up if they just have the VIN. Anybody else remember that?? :dunno:

Here's the original thread about getting a new sticker (Post #3) >>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18376&highlight=window+sticker

Yes I saw that thread but I'm not the original owner and the selling dealer is over 2,000 miles away. I also saw the other threads saying that the Ford customer service 800 number was of no help.

Has this one got you guys stumped?

Seriously though. Does Ford not place or attach something that shows the options and/or their codes somewhere in the car?

A sticker? A tag? A build sheet? Anybody found anything like that on their car showing the options it was built with?

Nope...not stumped...it doesn't exist. How do I know? I've seen a Marauder literally stripped to a shell of body only...there is nothing.

Have someone pull an OASIS report on your VIN...I think all your equipment for you VIN will be listed. And as suggested above...some dealers have the ability to print another window sticker copy for you.

Make up your mind what you're asking for?

There is a sticker on the fan shroud that explains serpentine belt routing, and a few other pieces of 411, one in the trunk explaining spare tire mounting, jacking locations and so on. After that, it'd owners manual, then on to the Big Red Book, the Helms Directory, two books.

There were only a few options on a Marauder to begin with, and different by model year. Heated seats were promised, only the 300B and newer got them. Sun/Moon roof was also likewase promised and delivered.

Trunk organizer and six CD changer in trunk were options you could order, as well as the rear spoiler.

Some guys made a big stink about the sun/moon roof, demanding a "factory install" over an aftermarket dealer install. The truth is, it's not a production line item to begin with, rather the car is pulled from the line and sent to an aftermarket dealer, who installs it. This is indicated in the VIN.

Maybe you need to hunt down an "order guide" where it lists all groups, and tells you what's standard and what's optional. It says stuff like "069A light group" standard.

I never changed my mind on this thread.

All I've ever asked was if Ford uses a data tag, an option code sticker or a build sheet showing what options the car came with from the factory and if so where should I look for mine.

The MM I purchased came with a lot of dealer installed items like vin glass etching, window tint, wheel locks, etc. I know those items were not installed at the factory but I was just curious if the other options I see on my car like the trunk organizer and the cd changer were installed at the factory or not.

I apololgize if my question offended you.

Thank you for the info & pics. I guess if Ford did use a paper build sheet you would have seen it under the carpet or behind the interior panels.

I did have an OASIS report run by RoyL (sp?) and the info wasn't on it unless it was clipped out before being emailed to me.

Only factory options on the 2003 300As were the trunk organizer and the CD changer. Everything else was Standard. One could also order both and add them afterwards. Only your window sticket would tell you.

The spoiler was a dealer installed option, ordered separately.

It's something that does not exist for us, and I mentioned the non-standard stickers we do get. The stickers in the door jams are on every car, 'cause the government says so.

I think what you want to know is in the "Order Guide", but there is one more resource to check, which is why a typical "brodcast sheet" isn't around anymore. It is unnecessary these days, because there is a computer program available to any parts department called...

HVBoM - Features for VIN 2MEHM75V63Xxxxxxx (add your VIN).

This can be printed out, but it's not printer friendly. It will give you all part numbers used in the building of your specific Marauder. Engineering part numbers, updated service parts numbers, and Motorcraft replacement part numbers, down to the last trim screw. It's grouped by a weird alpha-feature code, but it covers the whole car. Here's an example;

AXLE-Final Drive Ratio = EGAHD = 3:55 final drive ratio

The rear axle is a bunch of individual parts preassembled into one part, and our Marauders get EGAHD, as opposed to the Grand Marq, which is EGA01. The report goes on like that, our Marauders got one specific radio, and that reads;

AUDIO - Radio = 1BABE = ELETR PREM STRO/CSTE/DICS/CLK

It's not an easy report to work with because it's designed for a computer screen, not printing. But, it is a lot of useful 411 on part numbers, and what features came with your Marauder, specific to your VIN. Warning...My report is 49 pages long. Maybe you know a parts dude somewhere that can help you with a print out?

Apparently those items you mentioned on your car which may have gotten your curiosity up thinking a "built sheet" or something may show all these goodies---is actually ,mods installed by the previous owner or owners it seems to me-or has this been mentioned already----either way--your question has pretty much been answered here quite thoroughly I believe.

---is actually ,mods installed by the previous owner or owners it seems to me-

And you found this out how?

Since this thread has been brought back up to the top I'll add that I came across a thread in the archives where someone here says their MM did have a build sheet but that the salesman threw it out. They mentioned how they regretted not retrieving it from the trash or something like that.

Did that thread convince me that our cars have build sheets? My answer would be no since I don't see other people posting that they found one in their car but then again how many of us have gone looking for one?

Just something we ought to keep in mind.
