Here ye...Here ye

Oktoberfest in Seymour In. could be the site for the next regional meet for the folks from Mi, Ky, Oh, and anyone else who likes to have fun in the fall.
Dennis Reinhart returns to his hometown every year for this festival and for the past 4 years a number of us have attended it and had a GREAT time. Last year the Mayor of Seymour asked us to be in the parade for 2006 and we would love to make a great showing. If you have an interest in attending, please vote in the poll.

We will have a cruise through the backroads of Indiana, lunch at a German restaurant and have other "attractions" planned depending on how many folks would be interested in making the trip.

For those who can't make it to Fl. for the "Big show" this will allow you one more opportunity to get together for fun with your fellow MM owners before the big freeze hits.

Oh,, and one more thing about Oktoberfest-----

Ideas for October 6th, the day before Oktoberfest
The resturant is located about half way between Indy and Cincinatti, making it a great place for lunch for those coming from Ohio. Meet at Noon

http://www.sherman-house.com/menu.asp

This is about 60 miles from Seymour with twisty backroads
to negotiate on the return to Seymour with plenty of fall foilage to observe. It also keeps with the "German" theme of OktoberFest. Food is A+++

Here's the menu for The Pines for Friday night.

http://www.thepinesonline.com/images/seafoodmain.jpgSeafood Buffet:
Shrimp Scampi, Char Grill Salmon, Catfish/Hushpuppies, Frog Legs, Breaded Shrimp, Crab Linguini, Snow Crab Legs, Peel & Eat Shrimp

Plus: Fried Chicken, Carved Round of Beef, Soup, Salad Bar, Dessert Bar, Homemade Yeast Rolls, Vegetable and Side Item Selections.....

$16.99

http://www.thepinesonline.com/

How does that sound? There is no other menu to choose from. I'm not a big seafood fan but I can find something there to eat. Can't beat the price.

Never heard of Seymour, IN until this thread and then it shows up in the news. No connection implied or intended.

I'll have to pass on this trip --- although an Oktoberfest really sounds appealling. I checked NO; but want to state for the record that I stopped waxing my badger years ago !!!

That's why I put the quotes around sniper. Back when we had our problem here in Columbus turns out what the press called a "sniper" turned out to be some nutcase taking potshots at freeway traffic with a handgun.

I need a ball park head count for the PinesI'd like to get the menu details. It's not available on their website.

My only reservation with the Pines is that there is an extremely limited menu if you're not into the seafood buffet, which sounds good....if you like seafood.

To keep this thread in check, everyone send me an email if you and your guests will be attending dinner on Friday evening, in the 6:30pm or so timeframe. Tell me also when you're arriving and departing. I have a spreadsheet going like previous meets.

Just got off the phone with the nice lady at Seymour and I'm all signed up + sent the email to Mary and signed up for all the events as well.
This plan is way cool, since I can hang out with the grandchildren on the way out, and back, since Greenfield's only 50mi east of Cincinnati, and on the way. With luck they'll be just about done with re-construction of their home from the fire on June 28th, and they'll be moved back in. It's been a long summer for the kids.

We may be able to leave an hour later from Ohio. more sleep for me! Does anyone have an address for lunch. I don't believe that it was on their website. I need to print up my mapquest, or at least download it to my laptop for reference. Hopefully, Hampton Inn has wireless connection. I just dropped my AOL to free. I've been wasting $14.95/month for no tech support for the last 7-8 years. Found that I had no support when I tried to cancel this week. Now I have no support for FREE. Enough of my ramblings. The f-d up parking started way downstream; around where you were parked. Serves you right on the window fiasco,...

To celebrate such a wonderful weekend along with the announcement of new ownership of the website, those attending the Meet were given dash plaques and special commemorative Seymour Oktoberfest pins, courtesty of the new owners.

We also held a raffle. Alarmguy (Bob W.) donated a Pro-Gard he received as a free add-on to an order from Dennis Reinhart and Dennis donated 2 Marauder trunk bumper bibs. Chapel1 won the Pro-Gard, Pantheroc and MM2004 both won the bumper bibs.

Perfect weather, as Mike said, and many sunburned faces. Another affirmation that getting together with friends is a lasting memory. Many thanks to Dennis and MercMan (Dan) for adding the local touches. Same time, next year!!

Went and spent some time w/ DR at his Sister's home for a tweak and tune session :D The MM now shifts like it's that's it's job! Nice work Dennis!!!

This was a great event! The town made special arrangements for the enitre group, including special, roped off parking, and coveted spots in the parade ;). The food was great, the beer was better, and, as usual, the folks were the BEST!

Can't wait for Oktoberfest II!

I arrived home safely at 1800 Hours on the dot. I'm home!

While unpacking my Marauder (and dragging all that up stairs), I found a bunch of USPS/UPS junk waiting at my door, not to mention the posts I want to read, posts left since 0600 hours, 5 Oct. 2006.

I have to deal with some automotive/road trip "jet lag" or my own, but not a problem.

I'll stop back here later tomorrow with my summary, until then, y'all sleep well, eh?

Dennis Reinhart, right, stands with 18 other Mercury Marauder drivers Saturday morning at the Seymour Oktoberfest. Reinhart, who is formerly of Seymour and now owns Reinhart Automotive in Orange Park, Fla., was in town for the Oktoberfest and invited other Marauder drivers to join him in Seymour.

Enthusiasm for Mercury Marauder brings together drivers from across nation

A quick rev of the engine sent smoke billowing from the rear tires of a Mercury Marauder Saturday morning on a barricaded street in downtown Seymour during the annual Oktoberfest. With their similar, but unique four- door Mercury Marauders lined in a row, 18 drivers from across the United States — who refer to themselves as a small family — cheered on a fellow driver as he smoked his tires in a burnout for cameras.

Driving his rare, blue Marauder, Dennis Reinhart, of Jacksonville, Fla., and formerly of Seymour, brought the Marauder enthusiasts to the festival to meet up and see each other in person instead of at their usual “ virtual home” on the Internet.

Reinhart, who left Seymour in 1977 to join the U. S. Navy, said he usually travels back to Seymour for the Oktoberfest and the last few years has invited other Marauder drivers to join him at the festival.

With most of the Marauder drivers being around the same age, Mike Poore of Fairfield, Pa., said this group stands out by the amount of gray hair because

“ kids can’t afford to buy them ( the Marauders).”

“ It’s the cars, but it’s more about the people,” Poore said.

Usually using the Web site mercurymarauder. net as a way of sharing information about their vehicles, the group of drivers came from neighboring states such as Ohio and Michigan and from as far away as Florida and Pennsylvania to visit and catch up with each other in person — a journey

they usually embark on several times a year.

Coming together with one common interest, Poore said the group is made up of law enforcement officers, lawyers and those in the medical field, and when they get together they are all equal, because they own the same cars but each is unique.

“ Everybody puts their own touches on,” said Dan Kappesser of Tipton.
Adding his own personal touches to his Marauder, Reinhart, who specializes in high- performance customizing, said his car now has 464 horsepower and does 12 seconds to the quarter- mile because of a supercharger.

Reinhart said since leaving Seymour he has built his company, Reinhart Automotive, by concentrating on customizing vehicles such as the Marauder.

“ Seymour means a lot to me,” Reinhart said. He also said he hopes to be host for a regional show of Marauder drivers during the 2007 Oktoberfest. He said it should bring about 100 Mercury Marauders to Seymour.

Charlie Fisher of Louisville said he found the group on the Internet and has since used the Web site to keep in touch and has attended several festivals.

“ He ( Reinhart) is one of the first people I found that took this particular vehicle under his wing — outside of the factory,” Fisher said.

Reinhart said the Mercury Marauder was in production between 2003 and 2004 and then pulled from the market. He said the only colors manufactured were blue, red, black and silver, all of which were represented in the Oktoberfest parade Saturday. He said only 338 blue cars were manufactured before they were taken off the market in 2004.
Reinhart said he has worked with the Florida Highway Patrol to customize 30 Mercury Marauders for a team of hand- picked drivers for the state’s Rid Aggressive Driving and Road Rage Program.

328 Blue MMs

Actually, a better age quote would have been that the Marauder has nearly universal appeal across every age group. That's what the distribution says. We have every age group represented from 18 to 78 including some 16 year old "Marauders In-Waiting". In fact, in the resale market I think we are seeing even more younger buyers showing up with many more owners in their early to mid-20s. Of course, I didn't make it to Seymour to make the quote .... I'll fix that next year. ;)
