They are probably using one of those kits that has a gasoline drip into the tailpipe, otherwise unless you had no cats it would be very hard to accomplish.

The bumper cover won't melt from limited use, but the longer of intervals it is used first expect damage to the bumper paint, then bumper deforation, then actually melting the material, then possibily catching it on fire. :eek:

Thanks to the modern marvel of a Camera phone we get to see that vid.
Chopped top 40's merc's look really cool with the flame thrower set-up. I cant say the same for this modern Merc. :shake:

I think the bumper covers are pretty durable. I've noticed my exhaust tips get danged hot after a little "spirited" driving - and they are close to the bumper.

Having the Tips schooched out 1 1/2 - 2" would most likely prevent any bumper issues.
