I wanted to started a thread to get peoples opinions and input on what their Mercury Marauder Engine would be if they had the money, time, and experience to do what so ever to they wished...

Would you leave it stock?
Would you put in a Teksid block with forged internals...If so which ones?
Would you bore and stroke it?
Would you buy the new 5.0L Cammer motor?
Would you buy the new Ford GT 5.4L motor?
Would you supercharger? If so with what brand supercharger? and why?
Would you put a 1963 427 SOHC "Cammer" all aluminium motor in it?

:pimp: What is it you would do with your Marauder engine if you could do anything?

Really hard to decide between these two:

new Ford GT 5.4L motor -and- 427 SOHC "Cammer"

:D

Teksid block
Billet crank
Oliver Rods
Good pistons (dont know who i would use)
Bore/stroke to 5.3
GT/GT500 heads
Sullivan intake or custom sheetmetal
twin turbos (or maybe a HUGE single)

I don't think our engines are all that shaby once you toss the OEM tune.

But if I had the money .....

There would be a Trilogy on mine.

I'm not sure it would be worth all the trouble to do anything internally to the motor unless it was already coming & being taken apart for other reasons.

The Trilogy would be more than enough for me out of the box.

But as with anything .....

Once you have a lil' taste of something, you want more.

Course' I do have (3) other cars I'd love to make go faster too ..... so I'd probably do the Trilogy & be done with it, focusing on ways to make the other stuff faster.

The Cutlass as it sits .....

Would probably run right alongside a N/A MM with a tune in the 1/4.
(403 4bbl - TH350 - 3.42 Grand National posi)

Now if I could NOT have a S/C on the MM & it needed to be N/A ..... then I'd have to stick by the ole' there's no replacement for displacement way of thinking ..... & go with something NO less than 351 cubes & 5.8 liters. I don't think I'd go back to an "old school" OHV motor in the MM ... I'd want to stick with the modular design.

Course' that's making the assumption you could build & fit in a modular motor of that minimum size in the MM ... which IIRC, our MM's won't even accept a Ford production 5.4 w/o a lot of fabbing - time & money.

I wonder what a modular 4V motor of 460 cubes would put out, if such a beast was even do-able.

I also would love to build a worked 425(not a 455) for the Cutlass some day.

Im thinking SHM may have it right...
Leave the basic motor there and work from it and no pull it out...
Motor swaps aren't really for the new Mercury Marauder...

I'd probably go with:
Starting with a Teksid aluminum block, we add forged pistons, Billet I beam Manley rods, a forged steel cobra crankshaft, FM bearings, moly rings, ARP main and head studs, plus fully ported heads with oversize valves, billet camshafts, HD beehive springs, titanium retainers, everything you need to make reliable horsepower.

...But tell me if there is something more I can do...
Yes it has a vortec...10-12psi:bandit:

That is a really hard to decide but I think I'd use the new GT 5.4L for the Marauder and put the 427 SOHC "CAMMER" into a Custom Hotrod, or an AC Cobra, or maybe even a thunderbolt...

My father has an all aluminium (well except for the magnesium valve covers) 427 SOHC "cammer" in an original AC Shelby Cobra. It's *****ing rediculous....

Good Point!

I think that makes the decision!

If I have to do it again, here's what is going in:

Ford 554 big block, aluminum heads, all forged internals with 7.5:1 compression and upgrade to an 8-71 blower running 15 pounds of boost.

This setup will net 1200+ hp...

So why didn't I do it last time? Because I didn't have the extra 10K $$ laying around. But, I do have my 460 block now and am having it prepped. That's all I'm going to say.

Ya know i would love to do more , BUT you hit the nail right on the head.

For my dream engine I would stick with 4.6L but have it balanced and blueprinted with bulletproof internals i.e. forged crank, rods, pistons (CR @ 8.5:1), O-ring block. Have the stock heads port and polished then put together with upgraded valves and springs for high RPM. Then I would go with a single Precision Turbo T76GTS with electronic boost controller and the biggest intercooler I could put behind the grille. Max boost will be about 24 pounds with 9000 RPM potentials. (Gotta love turbos for its high RPM capabilities with no boost drop off at high RPM) This set up should easily be good for 1000+ horsepower. I wouldn't even mind a little turbo lag. Who would want all that power to the wheels at dead stop if you don't have the rear tubbed out. Presumably, I would have to beef up the trans and the rear end but for the rear tires I would go with size 295/40/18 and not any wider. This would be my traction limited "clutch". I would rather replace the tires than trans or rear end.
If those Supra guys can get over 1000 horsepower with only 3 liter 24V 2JZ-GTE 6cyl engine, I don't see why it couldn't be done with a 4.6L V8 32V.

I feel a flame coming on this one but. . . Here goes:
Big block Chevy Ramjet 502 with twin turbos and a 125 wet shot of Nos. HP would be somewhere around 900-1100.
Of course that would rquire a lot of other mods if I ever wanted to actually drive the car.

5.4L DOHC iron block with forged internals and one big single turbo. I don't sweat the lag, because when she starts to breathe :burnout: .

If my forged (soon to be S/C) 5.0 Big Bore ever expires...(OH don't even think it!)

Because you just can't get a lot of cubes out of a modular V8...@ 360 cid max.

I'd be tempted to go pushrod V8...namely a 600 CID John Kaase BOSS 429 engine.

That way I'd still have those massive valve covers!!!
