I just put in my K&N air filter, and immediately noticed that with a warn engine, no A/C running, and trans in Park, I now idle at 800-900 RPM, where before it was 700. Is this normal? If the engine was designed to run at 700, should something be adjusted to cut down the idle speed now that the K&N has kicked it up? Thanks

Ross,

put it in mine and no difference in idle speed - still 750. any chance of leaks around the air box sealing gasket or tube going to the throttle body?

My MM idles at 550, sounds like your's is begging for air...

Same here, about 550 or 600 RPM. I wouldn't mind if it idled another 100 RPM faster, personally, but it holds all that accessories (AC, etc.) so it's not a problem.

Well, I now have a couple of hundred miles on my K&N air filter, and the idle speed is back down to about 750 where it was before. I called the K&N people, and they said that it takes about 100 miles for the new filter to wear in, and sure enough, it looks like they were right.

Hm-m-m-m-m...

I have to wonder WHY an air filter would affect the idle speed that much for only 100 miles...what do they mean by "wear in"? I would think a properly designed air filtering system should have NO effect on the idle speed, either in or out of the circuit...

your mass airflow sensor has to relearn parameters when you install a k&n filter, and be sure you do not over oil it when you clean it, or you will kill your, air meter

What is the part number of the K&N Filter you used on the Marauder?

We got a real nice part number list going in the FAQ, check it out?

That part number was listed on an another thread. You can contact K&N or do a search. I'am sure someone on the board has that # available.
