Was soundproofing decreased in 2004 MM??

Just drove a 2004 MM and my perception was that I heard more road noise in the 2004 than in my 2003. Does anyone know if any changes were made between the two model years with respect to sound deadening?

The mileage on both cars is in the high teens and I believe both to be stock, with respect to the sound deadening materials. The 2004 did have a factory sunroof, but the road noise I'm talking about seemed to come from the floor and doors. Both vehicles had stock original tires, and if anything, the tires on the 2004 were in better shape than the 2003. Also, both had stock exhaust.

Are you sure you weren't just listening to hard? Usually when we drive our own cars we have the radio on, talk on the phone and have various other thoughts to distract us. When test riding a new vehicle you will always be looking for a problem. And the sunroof would add a certain amount of road noise to the drive even if closed.
