When the A/C is on at any speed there is a light rattle noise like the fan is rubbing something.

Anyone else have this? Is there a TSB? I wonder if its covered under my ESP...

As long as I have been here, never heard this complaint expressed before. You may have a "first" on your hands.

OTOH, got small kids that like to throw toys around inside the car? Ever leave loose change on your dash?

Something small like that, may hve worked it's way down the defroster plumbing, and it's running up against the blower?

Keep us posted?

I don't think you are alone. Bring mine to the dealer tomorrow because I am getting a noise like air rushing over a paper bag when I turn the blower on. Had this problem since I first bought the car but now its starting to bother me.

mines making a light squealing noise that varies as I turn the air up and down. Sent mine in today and they want to tell me it's due to the vents and if I adjust them it will go down.

Then why are others experiencing probs, huh?

Mine was making a bit of a fan rattle at low to medium speeds. Took it in and the fan motor was replaced under the standard Mercury 36mo 36k warranty. The low to mid speed rattle is gone but now I have some extra like "fan blades just touching the housing" rattlely noise at high fan speeds. Its not too bad but not right. My standard warranty is up 10-31.So I'll be headed in this month for round 2. I had an 87 Taurus with a similar problem and it took 4 tries to get it right:( . Hope that doesn't happen for either of us! Good luck!

Are you sure it's not the vents themselves, that are rattling ?.

There's a TSB on that.

It seems to happen most when the vents aren't 100% fully open. The lever being just a lil' pinch off the full open mark, was when mine would make noise.

would anyone know the TSB specifically?

Thats exactly like the noise I've got.

I'll keep you guys posted. I'm gona find out tomorrow for sure if its covered under the ESP. Normally it wouldn't bother me but when I have clients in the car I don't have the stereo cranked up to its normal "loudness" and I can hear it pretty good.

Thanks

Hey - the fan blower motor is right under the hood on the right-side firewall. The motor and squirrel cage are attached with basic screws into the blower duct. Take it out if you suspect leaves or debris. You'll save your sanity and your blower motor.

My blower motor was replaced under warranty for rattling. I think I had about 35,000 miles on it when it started.

This is exactly what was happening to me. I jiggled the vent a bit and everything went stone quiet again.

Bringing this thread back up because I've got the exact same problem. Strange...didn't do it with the heat on full blast, or not that I noticed...but now that the weather is warming up, when I get in the hot car and the A/C kicks on full blast...MAN is it loud. Does sound like air rattling a paper bag as some others described, and even with the music on I can hear it. And it's starting to drive me up the wall! I'll check the blower motor out I guess if that's easy...and make sure the vents are fully open. But if neither of those are the culprit, do I have any chance of it getting fixed by the dealer without having to fork over a bunch of cash, due to the TSB? 3/36 warranty expired in 5/06, and while I've got a 3-year extended powertrain warranty, I think I'll have a hard time convincing them that the A/C system is part of the powertrain. :)

As crazy as this might sound, bear with me............

The A/C intake for the "Max A/C" (recirculation) setting is under the dash behind and below the glove box. On more than one CVPI, when we heard the "air over paper" noise or experienced reduced air output from the vents, investigation revealed that a napkin, paper towel or other paper from an "over-full" glove box had either fallen or got sucked down and became lodged on this intake. The glove box basically has no "roof". Stuff piled too high can fall over the back side and down toward the floor. But if the A/C blower is on high, paper can get sucked right up to this intake.
