I had the "CDDJ Error" message twice and it stalled on the same disc in the same place both times. Had to eject the cd cartridge and replace the offending disc that was in the number 1 position. Now it is in the number 3 position and there's been no reoccurrence.
Seems that I also remember some initial problems in getting the CD cartridge to eject. With the top door opened, I pressed the cartridge to reseat it and then pushed the eject. Had to repeat several times before the cartridge would eject. If this doesn't work --- see your dealer.
As I mentioned at the top, the situation was specific to a particular CD and has not been repeated again in the past 2 years. Good luck on a simple fix.

Hi guys, I'm new to the MM scene, but I had a problem in my wife's 2003 Taurus where the cartridge wouldn't eject. I took the changer out of the console, removed the cover and found that one of the trays that holds each CD was loosely jammed. Once I pulled out that tray completely the Changer worked fine (just with 5 discs instead of 6) This was a very easy procedure, about 30 mins. total. If you're out warranty like I was it's worth your time.

I had part of your problem.
Once the CD changer gets mad the radio won't recognize it until you "reboot" it by restarting the car.
My problem was also caused by one faulty disc. I think its really annoying that one bum disc prevents the other 5 from working. I also thought the CD DJ Error message was pretty misleading... since my disc wasn't completely bad the changer would work sometimes and othertimes not.
Anyhow, got rid of the offending CD... I think it was in my #1 slot too... and life was good.
Keep jiggling/wiggling that cartridge... I'd shut the car off & restart it (but not the changer) first so perhaps the CD changer has power to push the cartridge out.

Speaking of CD changer cartridges, I did not notice the cartridge was missing from my changer until it was much too late and the dealer would not replace it. They very kindly offered to sell me one for over a hundred bucks, but the single player in the dash works just fine, so I passed. I would like to have one though, so does anyone here know where a cartridge can be purchased for a more reasonable price?

Not a solution, but a suggestion. Get an MP3 player that will play thru your radio and you'll never have to deal with CDs again. I fought the urge for a long time, but took the IPOD plunge. Then I got a $19 dollar Belkin FM adapter that plugs into the bottom of it and lets you adjust the FM channels for play and recharges the IPOD at the same time. I make my own playlists of the songs I want to hear, not the ones I don't, and the IPOD has more space than I'll ever use. Now instead of 6 CDs and a case of them I have to open and search through when I want to change, I have one device with every song I own in the palm of my hand.

Hmmm,...
My L/M Dealer quoted me at ~$80.00.
Contact Ray The Dealer here on the board. I have done business with Ray in the past, and will not steer you wrong.

In the archives I found a post for a company called Radios And More located in New York.
Last month I ordered part # 3F1T-18C833-AA at $30 plus $6 shipping from their website.
The cd magazine was shipped by DHL Overnight for the $6 and the magazine worked perfectly. It even had the Ford part # on it.
The only place I could find a lower price was on ebay. But on ebay most sellers are playing that low purchase price but outrageous shipping price and the ones they were selling were generic brand replacements.

I removed my factory 6-CD changer, replaced it with a JVC 12-CD changer, which has since been replaced with a 60GB OmniFi DMPI from Rockford. Now I can store & play up to 60GB of MP3's.

My 6-disc changer went on the fritz a couple of years ago, and I just never bothered to try to have it fixed because dealers usually don't want to hassle with it, because they are "auto dealers, not stereo dealers". Good luck.
