Alright as most of you know I'm due for a new engine/car or rebuild. I wanna know what I can get for a rebuild now. Mac told me about someone that could do a good bottom end build for around 4,400 or 4,800. Just wanna know if the parts would simply hold up better as I add performance parts or would this thing run a 13 or 14 second time as is.

I also wanna know whats worth looking into as far as a rebuild and does anyone know of anyone to do the work. Like what parts, pistons (dua) crankshaft, heads... exc. What should I look into when considering a rebuild that I want to modify? I wanna make sure this can hold up to a blower and I know our stock engines are fine. If I could I would wanna run high 11s with this rebuild, blower, gear and tires. I don't know if it's all possible for 12 grand though. Whats your opinion?

I know you hate this but! Mac put a thread out there call engines 101?

Detailed his re-build of the 1X car.

Very good read!

4800 is a lot of money for rebuilding a bottom end. I do not know what you and Mac discussed. If you were talking about going for a big forged stroker then that may be in the right neighborhood.
Mac will be the first one to tell you to start with the end in mind.
#1 What are your horsepower goals?
#2 How much do you want to spend to get there.
#3 Which PA will you use.
Be realistic about your goals.

500 rwhp is a lot cheaper then 600 rwhp.

You have two very good sources very near you..... and you've already spoken to one of them. ;) Zack would be the other.

Why not just get a good used Cobra Motor.....and go from there?????

Dominick, youre posts are getting a little redundant.
Just make up your mind, huh?

A rebuild? Do you have a lot of miles on your car, or do you just want to build something better? If so, I'd agree with getting a used Cobra engine.

You've got 12 grand to spend? Then this is easy.

Bring the car and the money to Zack and have him do it.

I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong with your engine Dominick, nothing that can't be addressed. But, if you want a clean start on a budget, look into the deals at www.modularmustangracing.com (http://www.modularmustangracing.com) or, www.DSS racing.com

Both offer low budget 600 brake HP shortblocks builds...New cast iron blocks, aluminum forged pistons w/9.5:1 compression, H-beam forged rods, cast 6 bolt crank, treated oil pump, ARP fastners. Under 2500 bucks.

These are good solid builds that make a lot of sense on the street with your average power adder. 450 at the back wheels on 10-12 PSI of boost, and safe as all get out, beat on it all day long.

While that's going together, we run your heads over to Mike Halley at High Flow Heads. For 1600-2000 bucks (depending on parts needed), you get a complete overhaul of your present head. Fresh hard metal valve seats and valve spring seats (not the powdered metal OEM junk that ticks), guides if needed, seals, Crower high tension "beehive" valve springs, keepers and keys, and some decent bowl work and port clean-up. Use the stock cams. This is not a balls-out head job, but a sensible build up tailored for fairly hot performance, street or strip.

Add 1K for Zack R&R, assembly and tune, and you are up and running, and ready for the blower of choice. Even if you don't blow it, but hit the juice, the engine will take it with a smile.

I still think you could save a few bucks by rebuilding your block, but that's up to you.

are you trying to make this a daily driver after these mods are completed?
you may want to also think about investing some of your money in a cheap daily driver to keep the miles off the marauder, especially if you're putting that much money into it

Yes still a daily driver. The only reason I started another thread like this Zack is just to get as many options as possibe. I knew rebuilding was always an option, but I never got too much into as to whats in it and what I'll cost. I don't have 12 grand to spend at the moment, this would be over 2 years or so. But if I could run high 11s for 12 grand I'd be very happy.

Think about the long term and if you want to put that much money in the MM. I will sell you my 85 Grand national that runs 11s for 8k which will leave you 4k for a used 4.6 4v motor to get your MM on the road again. Just something to think about, you may not want to spend 12k for a daily driver 11 sec MM. JMHO.

A Grand National is on my list, but it's not on the top right now. Thanks for the suggestion and if I could I would buy that sweet ride of yours.
