So, I purchased at AutoZone a Siemens VDO part# PM287 blower for about $40. Once it arrived, the instructions stated that splicing the wiring might be needed, oh well. Upon removal, the original was also a Siemens part with a Ford number (YW7H-19805-AA).

[COLOR=black]It started acting up about four weeks ago. Erratic behavior such as stopping suddenly, coming on and off at random, not the normal cycling for temp. I suspected that this was the blower dying a slow death, but read somewhere that is may be the "controller". So I waited through the heat wave until I knew for certain of the source of the problem. This week it started to gradually slow down, with some odd noises such as a quiet squeal, then stop. It was confirmed, the blower had died. I went to the dealer for parts relating to the blower, which totaled more than $200, which included altering the wiring for some reason.

That did not sit well with me. If I was going to cut wiring, I should just get the cheaper aftermarket parts. So, I purchased at AutoZone a Siemens VDO part# PM287 blower for about $40. I carefully removed the gasket as I was trying to reuse it. I'm not sure that it was worth the effort, but it worked. The used gasket seemed to be flattened quite a bit and would not stay in place very well when reinstalled. I recommend that a new one might save the hassle. To remove the "cage" blower fan, I used a small nail prying device that looks like a claw on a screwdriver. This damaged the spring clip beyond reuse. I cleaned the exposed shaft, held onto the fan with the motor downward and gently tapped the shaft. This was enough force to remove the fan from the motor without damaging it. By the way, I used an 8mm box wrench and socket for the bolts.

I went to the local hardware store to replace the spring washer. They did not have the same style, so I picked up a 5/16" external snap retainer ring (truarc circlip). Without the proper tool, this was a slight pain to put on, but it worked. Fortunately, the plugs matched perfectly, no cutting of wires!
When you replace the motor, don't forget to reconnect the rubber tube from the motor to the housing. Works perfectly now.

In hind sight, I would recommend getting the correct spring washer, and a replacement gasket before starting. I hope that this is not repeat info, and that it may help save someone some hassle.

the ford blower motor comes with a circlip retainer......and if your problem persists...it is the blower speed controller. 19e624, located on the box behind the passenger valve cover.
