A co-worker was offered a 65 Marauder hardtop coupe, at least we think its a marauder.
The front marauder badges are missing, it has a 390 with a 4bbl carb but the valve covers have been changed as well as the air cleaner so no idea if it is in fact a Marauder engine. Its a Automatic with the shift on the column but the owner made it a console shift. Im not sure if its a 3spd or a 4spd Auto.
It has a badge on the A-pillar that says marauder and thats the only Identification of it being a marauder. The color is a two tone, Blue with a White top.
Is there anything in the VIN I should look for to be sure that this is a true Marauder? If this is a true Marauder, how rare is the options like I mentioned?
Thanks for any info

If I recall correctly, in '65 there was no actual "Marauder" model. Marauder was a trim level on three cars, the Monterey, Montclair, and Park Lane.

See the first part of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marauder

The '65 Monterey lineup: http://www.mercuryarchive.com/1965to1968/1965Montereys.jpg

Here's a Montclair: http://www.mercurymarauder.org/cgi-bin/immc-register.cgi?mode=marauderpage&Xvin=********&Xupdate_time=1036968632

And a Park Lane (my Dad's)

Thing is, I don't know if Montclairs and Park Lanes were offered in 2dr in 1965.

So you may be looking at a Monterey...

Anyway, I'd ask for what type of Marauder it is, as in 1965 there are three.

Good luck!

BTW 390 4bbl is the right engine.

:cool: There was a 2 door merc in 65, hard top and post. I have a parklane marauder 65 2dr hard top. I was told that there were only about 6000 made in 2dr.

Heres a follow up According to the charts that was posted (Thanks!)
The Vin is 5Z57H592439

5= 1965
Z= St Louis
57= Montclair H/T Fastback
H= 390 2v V-8
592439= progression number

The Other identification plate showed 63BY6224F43

63B= 2 door H/T fastback
Y= Med Blue Metallic
62= blue metallic/LT blue metallic vinyl
24F= June 24th

I cant tell from the VIN or the other tag if its a true Marauder package car.
