The car is going in Saturday for an oil change and I am sitting at almost 30,000 miles on her. I want to get a tranny service and cooling system flush done while in as preventative maintenance. My questions are:

1) Should the tranny service be just a drain, filter and fill or a full flush?
2) Same question on the cooling system: drain and fill or flush?

Tranny service was done with about 6,000 miles on her when I brought her home, and figure about another 24,000 miles she is due again.

All input appreciated.

Thanks,

If you do it reguarly, i.e. around 20-25k miles, I would do a flush.

If it's been a super long time, I'd just do a drain/fill.

So in your case, I'd recommend a flush. Mine is going in for flush #2 since I've owned it in the next week or so...so if I'll also be watching others responses to this.

If the pan wasn't dropped at 6,000, do the flush, drop the pan and change the filter too.
Make sure you do the flush FIRST !!!
Then you can do drain and fills for the future.

^^^what MIB said^^^

Have them also install either a GOOD universal drain plug (not a B&M; they leak), the Ford/U-Haul pan w/built-in drain plug, or an aftermarket pan (FRPP or Art Carr for instance). It'll make future service easier and MUCH less messy.

If you do it regularly, i.e. every 20-30,000 miles, then a simple drain-and-fill should be fine. The filter doesn't need changing every time...every 2nd or 3rd is sufficient.
