View Full Version : One mile top speed?

What do you all think a stock Marauder would in a mile run. Motor trend tested 10 High Power tuners and the top measured speed was like 200 plus mph, but that was a 1000hp Twin turbo C6 and a Hennesy Viper. Naturally BLown Rauders would be higher but what do you all think. Also would it be safe for the rotating parts in our engines to go full throttle for a mile?

I was about to open my big trap and give you a number....then I noticed you said stock; I don't know.;)

Hey... the cars tested were not so spill it. At one mile where were you on the go fast meter at full throttle through the run?

Their was some talk in the past that one Marauder did around 186 MPH. Don't really remember how it was set up. Maybe some one else can shead some more light on it.

Aaaah...yes it would, the speedo needle may be a little bent.;) My brother in law had a GPS but past a certain point he passed out I think.

Stock? We have a 125 MPH limiter in stock form, right?

There a lot of lost experience here, owners who don't post anymore. But, it's been done time and time again.
For me personally (and sometimes in Zack's company), cruising at 120 is like cruising at 55. Endless, as long as you have fuel on board. Above 140 though, I'd say it's good for under 5 miles. After that, the cooling system cannot keep up and you get heat soaked.
I don't see what being supercharged has to do with anything in duration, maybe just defining very top speed? I don't think N/A can get to 140 very easy.

I know exactly how fast mine will go.
5-10 over the speed limit.
Or if I were on a private runway of some sort, exactly a little bit past the highest speed maker on the gauge.

I'm always a little hesitant to discuss the top end of our cars for obvious reasons. One thing I can tell you is that I never use 4th gear when doing power train tests at high rpm's.
When circumstances are ideal for safety at my test track, a standing one mile offers more than sufficient distance to take the needle to the end and I still have 200 rpm's left to red line.
For those that like to do the math:
400 rwhp
3.55 gears
29" rear tires

Exactly. 118 on paper...125 in reality.
It was a trick question all along.:P
Besides...most of us whether supercharged or not, are hitting 108 in the quarter mile...I do...
I imagine I could redline at my 4:10 gear limit in a mile. 140+

A while back I found a theoretical hp to speed calculation. It's somewhere in here. Figures in weight, horsepower, gearing and the like. I think I used 300 rwhp as that was a number we were shooting for back then. In theory, a Marauder with 300 rwhp would go 174mph. When you factor in aerodynamics, I figure 160ish is about it. Then comes the "pucker factor." You'd be surprised at how light a even a behemouth like a Marauder can get when you're blowing even say a 140 mph wind under it. Nearly a wing.

I am pretty sure mine would run 117 mph and then start bouncing off the limiter. :D

I'd have to disagree with you on this.....Theoretically of course!....:D

Actually Blue it just holds there. No bouncing at all. (See my Avitar)
They say stock they are governed @ 117mph, my guess is you will have no problem seeing 145 mph just because it has much life at the limiter. My car is bone stock all over, and I can tell you that it is a much more stable car at speed than my previous 95 GT Convertible, which topped @ 138mph, but at 120 mph you were hanging on for life :D.
These numbers of course were gathered during a number of very "scientific tests' up and down the east coast. I do not suggest we all get out there and perform the same tests at the same time, as individual results will vary..........
This is just my thing vs. drag racing. Always been a top speed kinda guy.
Best regards,

My Marauder saw the end of the line. I still had plenty of room under the pedal, and the car was not struggling a bit. The SCT tuner removes the 127 MPH hinderance. I was able to do the 127 without the SCT.
Remember that old commercial...? "How many licks does it take to get to the _________"?
I honestly suspect a tuned and unlimited Marauder, w/o the benefit of a power adder, would clock somewhere close to 170. That is likely 'Drag limited' I think the relatively low level of torque would run out of steam trying to hurl our boxes through the air....
It may very well be likely we would achieve a higher top speed in 3rd gear rather than 4th, due to that torque thingy....
Now the S/C guys have some added juice, who knows, they may push through 4th and get pretty close to the 190 mark.
I'm sure there is a mathmagical equasion to accuratly estimate this, but that's not much fun.
Hey wait! If you guys can get up to 120 in the 1/4 mile, then you must be able to get up to, UMMMMM...... 480 in the mile, right....?
My private track is closed at the moment, so my time trial will have to wait.

From a stop I got up to 125 mph in about 3/4 mile...the first 500 feet was mild acceleration since it was an on ramp.

Yes they can. In less than a mile too! I can't say anything about the heat soak at 140 but you're right about 120 - feels like 55 & you can run there all day (especially w3.55's)!

Before I got my Xcal2 I have had my MM up to 130 or so. Once it hit 110 the needle started to crawl. Now that I have the Xcal2 while up in PA last Friday on 476 I took the car to 135mph, road was nice and smooth but I didn't feel comfortable for some reason and backed off down to 80 with the rest of the traffic. Hopefully my diamond plate progaurd I'm almost done making will help some at high speeds.

Y'all be trippin...
Lots of theory and speculation going on here, but very little evidence or proof. Y'all can imagine and calculate until the cows come home, but I have driven two N/A Marauders and one S/C Marauder putting 500+ HP to the wheels. I stand on my statement from my personal experience, this car will not break 145 MPH N/A, nor 160 S/C.
When you have the proof, someone PM me...
As I always say when this subject comes up every several months or so....
The speedo only goes to 140...after that...you're just guessin'

I agree with Mac. ;) A mile goes by pretty quick at 120+ mph.
BIR (Brainerd Intl. Raceway) has a straight that is one mile long. It is actually the drag strip that is also part of the road course. On open track days, stock Z06's were only hitting high 140's on RADAR, and that is with a running start coming out of turn 10. The only cars to break 150 mph that day were a 600 hp Z28 and a 550hp C5.
I think there are a few guys on this site that have run BIR, and some of them have the Trilogy setup (jdando? maybe). Hopefully, they will chime in with their MM speeds.
Check out this thread aobut BIR Feel free to join us, too! (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29242) :banana2:
Randy
I have a nice in car vid of the Impala going down the straight and hitting the 130's if anyone is interested. ;)

Let me temper my previous post. I agree a Marauder would not hit 145 mph from a stop in a mile. I do beleive however that it will go 145 mph if given enough room.
Speed at the end of one mile from a stop I am sure you could hit 125 mph by the marker point stock.
Sorry for the confusion.

Copied this link from "Who's MM is this" hope it works.
I passed Martin at about the 1/4 mile and continued to 140+mph (the speedo ends @ 140) before I had to start slowing down. The runway is only 7000' so when you hit the mile mark you really need to start thinking "stop".
You can see from the video how fast Martin was going and when he looks up out of his windshield you can see where I am. Believe it or not!

I was just reading your thread on your LV trip for "Buisness"
I may be starting something new as well - just trying to figure out where to locate a shop to bring in enough buisness.
I like my current location on East LI but I'm not sure I can atract enough clients this far out.

And I have....
120+ in 3rd for about and hour, in Florida summer. Regularly.
The temp needle stays put. The speedo climbs and the gas gauge falls!
