I am considering trading my lightning in for a Marauder. Is this a wise move, I love the power of the lightning, but im looking for a decent 4 door so i can bring some people with me, plus the marauder looks kick ass. any info on these cars, such as any known problems with them?, pros and cons, would really help out.
thanks

Welcome aboard.:D :welcome1:

There were several TSB listed on this site.
.
One comes to mind the was an rear axel and bearing problem an some Marauders produced before 1/1/2003.

Some had bad paint.

Headlights fogged up on some 2003's

The foglights were the only problem I had to date.

You won't find a more fun four door out there for the price.
I smile every time I drive mine.
The tightly knit MM community is a bonus too.
Friendly folks, sharing a common interest.

Tires. That's the big problem for me.
Oh, and spending money on modifications, that's an issue.

And one last downside not mentioned by Rich or "Lisa", they don't come in sparkely PURPLE. If you want a really nice large car with performance that can be turned into a beast with some dollars and a few wrenches this is it. Enjoy. Fun is even better:beer: when you can share it with 3 or 4 others. Dennis

Welcome aboard. If you decide to do mods like a s/c and widened rear wheels, You could use the 295/45-18 "Lightning" sized tires.

thanks Their are a great car to own. They are Safe, Have alota room & they ride nice and even the stock one's move very well. Of course resisting to buy mods is impossible. But that is one of the fun parts of owning one. And another thing you have here is a group of people who are always willing to help if needed. Great People, Great car's you can't go wrong .

Perhaps a few things to watch for on a used mm

head tick
blue smoke on start up
some motors overheated which can lead to problems down the road
abused tranny, the OD bands are weak and 4-2 downshifts can hurt the tranny

Be sure to get an OASIS report prior to buying. A couple of the board members have access to it and will run the VIN number.

Overall it is a nice, big, powerful 4 door sedan!

When it came to replacing my 1995 SHO - I wanted another sedan with a moonroof and tons of power but I wanted RWD. I looked at the Maxima (FWD), the Altima SE-R (FWD), Lexus GS430 and some other assorted V8's. I saw Tom's (MarauderTJA) silver '04 Marauder ONCE and fell in love. Took me 11 months to locate a silver 2004 with sunroof (thanks to Carfixer!!!) and bought it online sight-unseen. I have never looked back and I constantly get asked what it is, people have shot pics of it with their camera-phones and it is a practical muscle-car. Rare build numbers and a unique package means unparallelled exclusivity of ownership and immediate friendship with anyone who is lucky enough to have one. For the $24,300 I paid for mine with 13k on the odometer - there is NOTHING that will meet all the power and options you get with a Marauder. Buy it!

thanks guys for all the help. I live in central mass, i found a silver one in northern conn, with 16k on it. Theres a dealer ship near me with a black one, i might stop by and take it for a spin, but my heart is set on silver or if i get lucky enough a red one.

I've been looking for months also. I found a cherry 16k mi Silver MM w/a sunroof and the light color leather for $21K or I can pay $23K and I get the 7/100K mi extended warranty from the original owner. Since I am going to S/C it right away I opted not to get the warranty. I have only seen pics and have to travel 700 mi to pick the MM up this thurs. Happy Hunting try the auto trader .com

With any vehicle their are bound to be some problems but with the great people on this site most problems are well known and can be guided in the right direction to get things fixed. I picked my MM Dec 05 and haven't stopped smiling when I drive it and my butt has been in the dog house since I got it bcause I'm using the "buy a house savings" to fund my mods for it lol. The car is a great head turner and especially if you upgrade exhaust componets, tap the gas and people break their necks to see what the sound was coming from. Welcome and enjoy yours when you get it! Oh and watch these videos, they will help you make your choice on picking one up:D

Only problems I have had with mine is the tires dont last long:burn: and neither does a tank of gas. LOL. But it's fun to drive :drive: and as mentioned is a head turner. Premium fuel only and the front tires are a different size than the rear. I have a Silver Birch w/ sun roof and after 19 months of ownership.....still haven't stopped smiling.:D
