As much as it chagrins me to admit , I ran out of gas yesterday. At first I thought I lost a gear becuase it started sputtering at low speeds, Then i thought I blew the engine when everything gave out. Of course it was after I was sitting on the side walk for five minutes when it dawned on me the symptoms were the lack of fuel and nothing major. A quick trot to the QT and 5 bucks later I was on the road. One thing though, my low fuel light came on that morning going to work, and it was on the way home when this happened ( 4-5 miles distance) but the needle was halfway between 1/4 and E. I think my fuel sender is F'd up.

The light comes on in my MM with 3-4 gallons left in the tank.

and shouldn't 3-4 gallons get me more than 4-5 miles?

Depends on how hard you were pushin' her :D :P

Always obey the light over the gauge....the light never lies....it's trying to talk to you...just listen to the light. (Sounded a little Shirley McLaine there...didn't it?)

I always push it, usually 50 more miles after the light comes on. When the gauge hits E, that means about 20 more miles. Yes, I've run out of gas in every car I've ever owned.

I ran outta gas ONCE while in my Cobra ! Thats all it took. I think that accelerated the death of my stock fuel pump too.

My SSR had both a low fuel light and a warning in the DIC. The DIC would giver you "miles to empty" calculation which I always wondered was accurate.

The Harley Truck (and I think Big Yellar as well) has a "low fuel" warning chime and message in the info center, but you push reset and it goes back to miles to empty. It rings the chime and gives you the warning at ten mile intervals under 40 miles to empty. I never had the cojones to go less than 20 miles to empty.

Oh, and the Toddster knows about low fuel conditions

Before I replaced my sender in my 300B, my light would come on just below a 1/4 of a tank and still ony take 12 gallons at the pump.

BTW, I ran out of gas in my Buick Skylark when I was 1st started driving. Luckily, I also had a 1981 Mustang (my only 6 cylinder) to go and grab a can and take care of it before my mom found out. I did all this while driving with a restricted license.
