I wanted to share this thread with everybody. I feel there is alot of truth about breaking in a new engine like this. I just broke in a new Jetta TDI diesel 50 plus M.P.G. this way i.e. drove it like I stole it and I am a becoming a believer in how crucial moderating upper load levels can be on any freash engine for the first 500 miles.

Welcome...

But just a suggestion...if every one of your posts is going to have a sig like Freemont Street in Vegas...it could get rather old...soon.

In fact, it already has with me. Please consider 1:18 scale.

No problem my tech dept is on it. I will submit sig for proper approval on the next one...It was a little loud...Thanxs AL

I had read this website's break-in procedures and asked our members opinion before I started up my rebuilt engine last year.

Darn, I can't figure out how to attach my original thread....anyway it is titled: "Engine Break-in Procedure" ...dated 4/23/2005

No need for "approval"...certainly not from me. Just take a look around the site...see what others do with their sigs. Lots of creative folks here with some excellent sigs...but none like you had previous posted.

I've read that link before. It makes alot of sense to me. Good info to anyone breaking in a new engine.

I agree with the author, drive it like you stole it, or, run it on a dyno.

Before any of this and years ago, I took a class in my schooling days called "Power and Transportation" as an elective course. It was fun I rebuilt all these lawn mower engines. Anyway, there was book learning, and the book we had a section about car engines, and had a very similar take on break-in.

I believe it stated a good procedure on a new engine build was to take it to a deserted street and do 10 or so launches going to WOT to seat the rings properly.

So that's just another source that speaks of a similar method.

Or better yet....

Put a blower on it and really give those pesky rings some "Seating Pressure"!!! :burnout:

This info has been flying around the motorcycle/ATV world for several years. I broke in 3 new ATV's like this. I had a 400 Suzuki that would out pull the 600 model. I couldn't stop this machine. I ended up putting 26" mudders on it (against recommendations that it would have a hard time with them) and it just pulled and pulled.

I beleive in the the 'new style' break in.

I broke my RoadKing in like this. The last time I had it at the dealership the tech who test drove it swore I had worked on the motor and insisted it was modified.
