Here is a 97 Saleen convertible we just finished for our friend and good customer, the car came to us with a tired 4.6 SOHC and Vortech S trim backed by a stock five speed, so David said he wanted some thing different, So we decided on a 03 Cobra DOHC install with blower. We removed the motor and transmission, and started fresh. First of all we contacted Johnson Motorsport and had them rebuild a 03 Cobra short block this included Manly rods Diamond racing pistons, billet oil pump gears ARP main and head studs. We sent Ron Hobart of Fox lake the heads, he did a full massage of them, included are stainless steel valves and retainers and bronze guides. We assembled the motor and set it in the car for a test fit, as you all know the 03 Cobra has COP for the spark plugs we wanted to make the install as simple as we could, so we used 96 Cobra Valve covers and retained the Saleens stock engine wiring harness and kept the coil packs. We installed 42 pound injectors along with a set Paul’s High performance fuel rails backed by a Aeromotive regulator and dash 8 and dash six lines fed by a twin Cobra fuel pump assembly. For the inlet we used a UPR cold air kit and a SCT B2800 Maf. The car originally had a five speed manual so we removed it. And installed a 04 Marauder 4R75W built by Paul’s high performance backed with PI 3500 Triple disk converter that was reworked by Chris at Circle D. Every thing was a bolt in it was a straight forward install, we had a custom drive shaft made, and we added a set of sub frame connectors. Installed a large water reservoir in the trunk for the after cooler, ordered a custom hood to clear the SC and sent it out to be painted to match the car. We installed Koni adjustable shocks and struts on all four corners. The interior is pretty much stock except for the Autometer gauges, boost fuel pressure, water temperature and oil pressure. The car made 358 RWH and 350 RWT on 8 PSI, keep in mind its now a automatic and it’s a fresh motor with no miles on it, after David gets the car broken in then he is going to install a Blow Zilla by KB.

Great job Dennis. One question though. Why did you put a auto in it? Looks great.

Great job Dennis. Agree'd though, I'm not a 'vert fan at all, but that one looks sweet. I also want to know why you put an auto in and not the Cobra 6 spd?

Looks great! Dennis, you are a great mechanic and even though I thanked you twice on the forums, thanks again for doing my TC, 4.10s, and exhaust install all in one day!

Well David now has brought the car back he has been bitten very badly for the need to speed, I think this may be the cure I will post more pictures this week.

So, Dennis. It took him about a year to do the upgrade. I like the look of the new SC. How many miles did he put on it in the year? I'm guessing you'll have it done by Seymour, and hopeful you'll bring photos.
