Has anyone done a wheelskins steering wheel cover on thier MM? I had one of those cheap Wal-Mart slip on covers last winter, but didn't like the look or feel of it. I would like to help preserve the stock wheel rim, but would also like something a little thicker than stock, but not as thick as the Wal-Mart slide on cover.
So, wondering if anyone has done the Wheelskins cover? I had one on a truck a few years ago that was pretty nice, but after a couple of months it kind of started "flaking" the material off in a couple of places.
So,
1) have you done on in the MM?
2) Do you like it?
3) What color did you go with?
4) Anyone one done a 2-tone setup?
For those of you interested, I did find them at the SS Inserts site:

You would think SSinserts would at least display the wheelskins on a MM steering wheel rather than a generic(Honda?) wheel.:(

I am thinking of going with the Charcoal grey since that is probably closer to the factory colors than the other grey or black. Just wondering if a nice two-tone color would setoff the interior nicely without being to gaudy. I was kind of thinking red since it goes with grey and black and since that is my "accessory" color in other places like the brake calipers and eventually powder coated cam covers.
Other wise I will go with just the solid charcoal grey. Figure that should give a nice thickness to the steering wheel rim - thicker than stock, not as thick as the Wal-Mart special slide on cover.

I don't have one on my MM, but I put one on my pickemup about a year ago.
So far it's held up great and I'm never gentle with that vehicle.

I have the Wheelskins Steering Wheel Cover on my Marauder, I chose the EuroPerf Perforated, Two Tone. The colors I went with match the interior very well, Grey / Charcoal.
The size for our Marauders is AXX. It's a perfect fit and covers the steering wheel just like factory.
Had mine on for seven months now and I like it and it feels good.:2thumbs:
Depending on the stitch you choose to do, make sure you get extra thread with the kit. I did the Baseball Stitch to make it look factory, took alittle longer to do,(3.5 hrs) but well worth it.
Got mine right here: www.dccarcare.com

Why dont you buy a spare steering wheel instead? If you want to preserve the car. The factory wheel is already wrapped in a very nice, perforated leather.
Regular conditioning and cleaning should make it last for a long time.
The Wal Mart Slide on cover has a rubber backing that will certainly be a lot less kind to the wheel vs your fingers.

I agree that I do like the covering on the factory wheel, but I would like a little more protection and I would like a little thicker feel to the steering wheel. The cheapo Wal-Mart cover was taken off long ago.

I had a Wheelskins cover installed on my MM a few months ago. It was a PITA to install and I never really did get it right. It is a tight fit and every stich has to be perfect. Although the color (charcoal) of the cover matches the factory interior fairly well. It is a shade off, but not all that noticeable.
I had just got the factory wheel replaced under warranty and put the wheelskin on to perserve the new one the dealer installed. With the cover, the wheel rim was way too thick for me and I did not like the way the stiching felt. After a few weeks, I took it off.
Overall, it is a better alternative to a Walmart cover. But I still strongly prefer the factory steering wheel.

What are you guys 'preserving' it for? A wheelskin, in my eyes is going to be leather rubbing on leather, and mashing down the padding on the facotry wheel, since it has to be stitched on around the wheel. Also, the wheelskin does not contour into the seams of the wheel like the factory one.
You want to preserve your wheel? Go get a wheel from a base model Grand Marquis, non leather and wrap it with a wheelskin, and keep your factory wheel in a box in the garage.
The way we all take care of our cars here, the wheel shoudln't be an issue, most of us here scrub, condition and take care of the cars from top to bottom!

I bought a light tan, very light, leather steering wheel cover from Griot's Garage and had a local leather shop dye it a light gray to match the seats. The cost of the steering wheel cover was approximately $16.00. Griot's also markets one in black. They're perforated, great looking, smell great and super easy to install; they just slip right on.

CAR Motorsports has been selling the WheelSkins for several years now. We would be happy to provide a group purchase opportunity with lowest prices in the country. Lets have a show of hands and we will post an order form.
Best wishes,

Once again, I had already ordered my product from another vendor before your posted your last 2 posts. I got it last Thursday and put it on over the weekend. No instructions on how to do the "baseball stitch", so I just did the regular stitch.
I got the charcoal grey and it is pretty close to the factory color, but a little lighter. But it looks good. I did have a little problem with it that I cut off the extra bits a little short at the knot and the knot pulled apart and it started to come out and loosen. Had to fix that last night. Shouldn't come apart now and if only you cold see what was stuffed in there to hide...but you can't tell by looking at least.

OK, here are a couple of pictures. Sorry the quality isn't the best. Interior is hard to shoot, especially shooting with a video camera for your stills.

Doesn't look half bad IMO. Actually, it looks rather comfortable. Thanks for the pics. Let us know how it holds up.

Just thought I would give an update on this. I have had this on for a little while now and am quite pleased with it still. The thickness of the wheel is right where I want it and it is holding up nicely.
Going to order one for the new CVPI daily driver I got.
