So I got my new MM on Tuesday and the CD changer in the trunk is already broke....can't use it and cannot get the cartridge to eject.....so I will be making my first stop to the dealer....
Anybody else have a problem with this?

I haven't.................but check to see if you have the right cartridge........sometimes salesmen like to swap them around..............it should be grey............
I did...because I loaded my CDs wrong the first time "D'OH!"...took it in and they fixed it.

The changers don't like home burned cd's especially if they have a stick on label. And like Todd said, it is easy to put them in upside down.

Well I know the cartridge is grey...and it worked fine when my wife was driving it....I was driving and tried to switch CDs then the problem started....maybe I did put one in upside down....but I am not sure...
Man is that going to be embarassing if that is it.

this happend with the changer in my other car. the problem was that the cd slipped out and it gets messey when the changer tried to pull it back. it was jammed crooked and the tray was stuck. i had to take it apart myself to fix it. but since you are warrtanyed up, dealer it is.

Stick-on labels are the product of Satan's stationary factory. I have completely sworn off using them on my home burned CDs.
As for reliably playing music home burned CDs in traditional CD players, I find the Ford CD changer and in-dash unit both seem to be fairly lenient. To hedge the bets in my favor, I usually try to restrict burn speeds to 8x or slower (*maybe* 12x if I'm feeling frisky). I know that when writing data CDs, speeds over 12x result in a different writing pattern, this may also be the case for audio CDs and this may make it harder for an audio CD player to track properly.

funny! CD-R's and CD-RW's work in both my MM's cd player and changer perfectly, but in my bros '03 Ford explorer it will take about a min to start playing. and in My step moms "03 expedition they wont work entirely. same with all my dads caddys (pre '95)
i hear it will cause damage in the future though (as long as im still under warranty when it brakes)

I agree, didn't take me long to figure out the label thingy wasn't going to work in autoloaders. Now, I got the neat Yamaha burner that etches into the CD. Not a lot of flexibility, just text, but that good enough for artist and my name.

I've been burning CDs since the first 2X HP writer, and I've not noticed a relationship between copy speed and playability on audio CDs. With data, yes, that uses a "packet" method, but audio uses another method, CAV I think. I don't know which is which, but there are some backward compatability issues with older CD players. One of my Sony CD carousels will not recognize CDRW (probably because the session is not closed), or 80 min. CDRs. But, both my '98 Mountaineer and MM (both with dual play decks) will play everything I have, some of which were burned in that 2X HP writer. OTOH, things may be intentionally different for international reasons.
