What's with the thing hanging down under the front of my MM? Is it necessary? It scrapes the ground alot on bumps and driveways. Do you guys take it off or what? Thanks in advance, GJTcodered

Not sure, but I think it's an "air dam" to direct fresh cooler air up towards the radiator when the car is in motion. I am sure one more mechanically knowledgeable than I will chime in soon.

Mine has been gone almost a year...since the blower pipes run where it used to be.......Cannot tell it is gone!!
I also removed the stupid rubber flaps that allow access to the fog lamps....they were sloppy and one got knocked off anyway!!:shake:

Yep, it's an air dam redirecting air up into the radiator.

...and according to tech it is a necessary part of the cooling "system." In other words, to remove it could cause you warranty coverage problems for any over-heat related issues you might experience.

Do not remove can cause overheating and do serious damage to your aluminum motor!

More of a deflector than catcher--and protector of your hoses as well--leave it alone...
I knew a guy who took it off his Tran Am, no one could figure out why the car kept over heating!
