I installed a Trans temp gauge this weekend. I dont know where my temps are supposed to be at for 'normal' but they seem low and the gauge seems slow to react..
It takes forever to come off of 100*, cruising speeds get me between 112-125*.. highest i saw was 150* in stop and go traffic. (Its cool outside FWIW, ~50 degrees)

I did put teflon tape on the sending units threads when i installed it, should i not have?

i also have it hooked up to the passenger side most tranny line. 99% sure thats the output line to the tranny cooler.. correct?

Sounds like you tapped into the return line.

Do you have pics?

What FoMoCo itself tracks is the temperature of the ATF in the trans pan. For transmission durability, those numbers should stay under 250 degrees F, at worst conditions (e.g., towing a trailer up a mountain, converter unlocked, ambient temperature of 100 deg F).

Ummm...okay... I gotta ask:

To those who have a Transmission Temp Gauge, where did you tie into for the sender???

Yes, mine is in the pan itself.
When it is 106+ outside going up hill the trans temp will
hit 210+and the water temp will reach 206+ at WOT.
Indeed that worries me.
I am going to put in a trans. cooler and engine cooler -
Thinking of a TruCool Max trans.#4739 and a PermaCool #201
headered cooler using the mounting brackets for a F150 truck
cooler both with bypass valves.

Love to hear any feed back all of you have.

I too have a ScanGuage -the newer one-it is smaller and shows more.
There is a new add on, being worked on that will
program the guage for your car to do much more with on line
updates as well. This add on programmer connection for your PC
will be out later. Denis Reinhart can get the ScanGuage for you for you.

Mine is hooked into the other line.

Don't take my word on this, I'm not a mechanic, but the flow from the tranny into the cooler should be the upper line. The flow back to the tranny after cooling should be the lower line. Gravity plays a small role in circulation.

I think we are looking down at the lines from the top if the radiator. Also, his temp are the same reading I got when I switched my lines around to see the cool side. (before the FRP cooler was installed.)

yes, it is a pic from above. I should have said that. Switching it around should be pretty easy.. I was suspecting that it was wrong, it was too slow and the temps were too low..

The tranny cooler Defyant mentions is my favorite, I have had very good performance from the Ford Racing kit, P/N M-7095-SR. page 134 of the '06 catalogue, 49.95. It's a self-regulating "stacked plate" design, no valves or thermostats required. It's rated to 18,000 pounds GVW, and measures 7.5" x 7.5" x 11". The kit is complete with hose, clamps, connectors and mounting gear. Perfect for the D.I.Y-ers.

Charlie, your recent install looks great. How difficult did you find it to install?

Not bad at all Mac. There is a thread somewhere, probably in the Transmission forum. I found a couple of hole Ford left open, so I only need to drill two and fab the brackets.

Here is the install thread: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28912

If you look at the first pic, the brackets on the right connect to the holes I mentioned above.

So far, my temps are very much improved. Both the engine and trans stay below 190* under normal driving.

My trans temps at the track did not top the 200* mark.
