Well, I made my first trip ever to the drag strip last night with my bud Defyant and some other CAM speed freaks. I was nervous all day and into the night when I got to the track. At 1830, I did a NHRA style burnout and rolled up to the tree....and then past the tree:o . I backed up and got staged. Lights came down, I put the pedal through the floor, no tire spin, and away I went. Holy crap what a ride and rush. Ran a 12.271. Needless to say, I was very pleased. We only got two more runs in because of the crowd and some guy blowing bits and pieces of his gears down the 1/4 mile. My second run was 12.147, and the third was 12.035. For anyone on the fence about going to the track, I SAY, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I was literally shaking and my legs were like Jell-o after my race with Defyant. WHAT A RUSH. Thanks for letting me share.

Woah! Bob! What great runs!

Seems you were really getting the hang of launching.....

Glad to hear you got to experience the real thing.

Man, Your Marauder really runs.

Bob that is truly awesome. You have to come out to some of our test and tune dates in Hagerstown next year...I think the lsat one this year is the shootout. No crowd, lots of runs. :)

Sounds like you're hooked, and have the same feeling I had. My first race was done N/A with 4.10 gears and I felt that way. I can only imagine the feeling the first time out with what you're car has under the hood!

You've already got the dr's too so you're more than set! You'll start to learn the reaction of the car and get even better at launching. Sounds safe to say you have an 11 second Marauder there, just need some cool weather and a tight launch for the slip. :)

Glad you enjoyed the first time out, I think you really described the feeling. Sure it's only a straight line but when you actually participate you realize how much more it really is.

When I go I'll spend an hour in the pits prepping my car, putting my tires on, checking tire pressures, doing a once over, all that work and effort for a 12 second bit of excitement.

Can't beat it!

WHAT A RUSH. Thanks for letting me share.
Thanks for the update on the Cecil County trip. Sounds like you and the Defyant Marauder are pretty evenly matched. Check out Charlie's post on how close it really was. :) Wish that I had made it up there to see that neck-in-neck run with you and Charlie.

I know exactly what you are talking about on the nerves and rush --- I made my first pass down the 1320 at age 54 after pressure from the CAM gang. Although I am not S/C'd -- Mike Poore and I squared off and had a similar close race -- albeit -- a couple seconds slower and several MPH lower. :D

I had a great time also Bob! Events like last night is what makes it all worth the time and expense.

But I'm not done with you yet my 12.0 friend! :D

Back at you! Charlie, if you look at the slip from our race, it has you first by .0394.:( But you know my car is kind of special, so maybe Steve Babcock put in a special time jammer thingy so when I go past the sign, it puts up better numbers than the guy next to me...:D

Time for me to hook up the TransWarp Drive! :P

So if this is true, who would have won if this was a gamblers race?

Bob:bows: you cheesehead...you are starting where most of us would like to end up. Whooossshhhhh. or so we think now till we get there, eh? You have an 11 second car there with a little practice and probably would have hit 11 last night if you have cleaned out the glovebox and left your lunch at the pits. I, too; have only been once but I can't wait to get back. It has got to be a rush, especially running with Charlie and running that fast just out of the box. Salute to you and to Lidio and the always great SW Florida Lab rats Carfixer, Tallboy and Shakes_26. Dennis:beer:

I arrived at Lidio's shop in the afternoon one day in August and half of Bob's car was laying about. I think he was there for some tuning, and afuel pump, and then an exhaust, and something about gears, and a posi, and and and and and..... :)

It was like watching Frankenstein being built! What a monster! 12.0 and it still hauls enough beer and ice for a thirsty crew of scalywags!!!! Arghhhh!

But really, I'm hating both of you so much right now, 12.0's and cold air...grrrr!!!

Impressive job, my friend! I am most impressed with your 60' times-are you sure you've never drag raced before? Thanks for the phone calls and updates last night, I wish I could've been there.

...Oh, yeah,...Bob?...One more thing..."Told ya!!!" :P

Congratulations Bob on a great E/T and even more impressive to me is your 60' time on your first time out.:bows: I am a little envious when a guy says "and I just nailed the gas " having the right tire and wheel set-up does make a difference.

Actually I'm also envious of the weather conditions, E/T, 60', Trap Speed, your car....etc, etc, etc....

Great Job!!!:D

Bob, sorry I couldn't stay for the race between you and Defyant. It was great to meet some folks that I see on these threads. I couldn't believe how fast these grocery getters are with only the minor modifications that are being done. I plan to join the supercharger club but albeit by a different route. Once I pay off the Marauder i currently have, I believe I am going to purchase another Marauder for the "Trilogy" treatment. Maybe we can do this again in the near future.

Welcome to the racing family. If you run enough and keep doing those NHRA burnouts, the tire companies will send you a Christmas card! :banana2:
