My auto locks acuate, when putting the trans into drive sometimes.
About one or two times out of ten, they dont lock untill I am down the road a bit.
Who else has experienced this?

Me  ....

Whats up with that?

I think the brake pedal has something to do with it. After driving awhile, I'd step on the brake. After releasing the brake the doors would lock

Happens both ways on my #3 too. But, as long as they auto-lock within a few feet of my forward movement, I never gave it much thought before.

They lock with the release of the brake pedal after putting it in drive. For example if you back out of your drive and come to a stop without using the brake, shift into drive from reverse, go down the street, then stop at a stop sign, when you release the brake they will lock.

I just got in the habit of hitting the door unlock button when I get out of the car if I need to open another door. Not a problem. I'd rather not be carjacked at a red light.

LOL D.C. is the place where you don't follow too close to the car in front or leave doors unlocked.

I know with GM's autolock systems upon starting the engine, you put it anywhere out of PARK and it would engage the locks.

If you were running the car, unlocked the doors to get out (leaving the car running) and got back in, they would not auto-lock again until you were rolling between 5-10mph.

Could be similar in the Ford design?

I have not found any difficulty is pressing the unlock button on the arm rest, nor pressing the unlock button on the fab.

No "Guy thing" here. I would much rather my doors lock themselves and stay that way until I exit the car. You never know these days, as Mary said.

My #1x had a Viper alarm with it's own autolock control. Put the car in gear, they lock up. Shut the engine off and all doors unlock. I miss that, can I reprogram the #3 do do this?

Thanks Warren, and other(s) for the comments.
If they worked the same way each time, I would not be concerned.
This feature operates the same as the Auto lamp mode.
It has a mind of it's own.
On the way to the dealer to fix windshild wipers, on a sunny day, nothing blocking the sensor on the dash, the headlamps came on and off three times.
I do have daytime running lamps.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with, this odd behavior of the lights.
I got gremlins, I tell ya'

My theory is, If not enough brake pedal pressure occurs on the initial "putting the car in drive from Park"
The autolocks accuate the first time I come to a stop.
I'm chalking it up to driver input.

I am w/ Bunny on this one. My wife's Honda Pilot does not have auot lock and it is one of the reasons I do not like the car.

We spend alot of time in NO and the crime is every where because the crims cannot live where they used to live.

The autlock is controlled by both the DDM and the LCM. THe DDM is what actually tells the acuators to lock, the LCM tells the DDM if a door is ajar or if courtesy lamps are on, as well the BOO switch status. After the car has been put in gear (this is picked up by the Transmission Range Sensor), all doors have been closes, courtesy lamps off, and the brake pedal has been pressed and released, the auto locks should immediately engage provided the drivers seat is occupied.

How to enable/disable autolock:

Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming

NOTE: This procedure must be completed within 30 seconds.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
Press the UNLOCK button three times.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Press the UNLOCK button three times.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm entry into program mode.
Press the UNLOCK button once to toggle the autolock feature on or off, or twice to toggle the horn chirp function on or off. The door will lock and unlock to confirm toggling of the autolock and horn chirp feature.
Exit program mode by turning the ignition to OFF or START.

I made a stop on I 75 just before the tool for the Sawgrass to help a LEO change a flat tire. A tow truck showed up just when I got there. So I left. I had mine not auto lock until I got off. Go figure.
